London Conservatives
The London Conservatives are the regional party of the Conservative Party that operates in Greater London. Party strength The party's main competition is with the larger London Labour Party for office. They hold 21 of 73 London seats in the House of Commons and 8 of 25 seats in the London Assembly. The party controls 7 of 32 London boroughs, and won 508 out of the 1,851 Councillors in the 2018 local elections. The party held the Mayoralty of London from 2008 until losing to Labour in 2016. Susan Hall
Susan Mary Hall is a British Conservative Party politician who has been a Member of the London Assembly (AM) for Londonwide since 2017. She has been the leader of the London Conservatives on the Assembly since December 2019. Political career Hall was elected as a Councillor on Harrow London Borough Council for Hatch End Ward in the 2006 local elections. She was given a Cabinet position responsible for the Environment and Community Safety in 2007 and became Deputy Leader of the group in 2008. Hall became Leader of the Conservative group in 2010 and Leader of the Opposition, she took over as Leader of the hung Council in 2013 returning to opposition Leader in 2014. 2000 London Mayoral Election
The 2000 London mayoral election was held on 4 May 2000 to elect the Mayor of London. It was the first election to the office established that year, after a referendum in London. David Evennett
Sir David Anthony Evennett (born 3 June 1949, Romford) is a Conservative politician. He was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) for Bexleyheath and Crayford at the 2005 general election. Previously he was the MP for Erith and Crayford between the 1983 and 1997 general elections. He served as Lord Commissioner of the Treasury from September to October 2022. Early life Sir David was educated at Buckhurst Hill County High School and the London School of Economics, where he was awarded an MSc in Economics. He began his career as a teacher at Ilford County High School between 1972 and 1974, from which post he resigned when he was elected to Redbridge London Borough Council (1974–78). Iain Duncan Smith
Sir George Iain Duncan Smith (born George Ian Duncan Smith; 9 April 1954), often referred to by his initials IDS, is a British politician who served as Leader of the Conservative Party and Leader of the Opposition from 2001 to 2003. Louie Thomas French (born 14 February 1988) is a British politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Old Bexley and Sidcup since the 2021 by-election. A member of the Conservative Party, he was a councillor on Bexley London Borough Council from 2014 until 2022. Shaun Bailey (London Politician)
Shaun Bailey AM (born May 1971) is a British politician and former journalist. A member of the Conservative Party, Bailey has been a member of the London Assembly since 2016. Born in North Kensington to a British Jamaican family, Bailey earned a degree in computer-aided engineering from London South Bank University. In 2006, he co-founded a charity called MyGeneration; it ceased operations in 2012 due to financial problems. 2021 London Mayoral Election
The 2021 London mayoral election was held on 6 May 2021 to elect the mayor of London. It was held simultaneously with elections for the London Assembly, other local elections across England and Wales, and devolved elections in Scotland and Wales. The mayoral and Assembly elections were to be held on 7 May 2020, but in March 2020 the government announced the election would be postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sadiq Khan was re-selected as the Labour candidate in 2018, the Conservative Party selected Shaun Bailey and the Green Party chose Siân Berry. Rory Stewart, a former Conservative MP and minister, ran as an independent before withdrawing due to the delay in the election. 2016 London Mayoral Election
The 2016 London mayoral election was held on 5 May 2016 to elect the Mayor of London, on the same day as the London Assembly election. It was the fifth election to the position of mayor, which was created in 2000 after a referendum in Greater London. The election used a supplementary vote system. The election was won by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tooting, Sadiq Khan, a member of the Labour Party, who polled 56.8% of the votes in the head-to-head second round of voting over the MP for Richmond Park, Zac Goldsmith, a member of the Conservative Party. 2012 London Mayoral Election
The 2012 London mayoral election was an election held on Thursday 3 May 2012, to elect the Mayor of London. It was held on the same day as the London Assembly election, and used a supplementary vote system. The election was won by the incumbent mayor Boris Johnson of the Conservative Party, who was seeking re-election for a second term as Mayor. Ken Livingstone, who had been Mayor between 2000 and 2008, was seeking a third, non-consecutive term as the Labour candidate. No other candidates received 5% of the vote (the threshold for retaining their deposit).
