London Buses Route 281
London Buses route 281 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Hounslow and Tolworth, it is operated by London United using 25 buses. History Route 281 was introduced between Twickenham and Tolworth on 9 May 1962 to replace trolleybus route 601, operating from Fulwell garage. On 15 August 1981 it was converted from AEC Routemaster to MCW Metrobus operation. In 2000, the route was identified as one of the most popular in London, with approximately 5.5 million passengers using the service that year. On 3 June 2006, route 281 became the 100th night bus service in London, when a 24-hour service introduced. It replaced a portion of route N22, which was shortened to end at Fulwell. Since the privatisation of London bus services, it has always been operated by London United out of Fulwell garage. MCW Metrobus
The MCW Metrobus is a two and three-axle double-decker bus manufactured by Metro Cammell Weymann (MCW) between 1977 and 1989, with over 4,000 built. The original MkI was superseded by the MkII which had a symmetrical windscreen with an arched top in 1981, although production of the original MkI continued for the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive and London Regional Transport until 1983 and 1985 respectively. The Metrobus was conceived as an integral product manufactured completely by MCW, but Alexander and Northern Counties also bodied some examples. Due to the Kingston one-way system, the various stops and bus stations are physically separate, however passengers are able to interchange between routes by walking through Kingston town centre, or walking from Kingston railway station. Fulwell railway station on the Shepperton Branch Line serves Fulwell in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. It is in Travelcard Zone 6. It is down the line from . History The Shepperton Branch or Thames Valley Line, opened on 1 November 1864, accessed from the Strawberry Hill direction only. The original scheme intended that it would extend to a terminus on the Middlesex bank of the River Thames just east of Chertsey Bridge but this plan was abandoned in 1862. The curve from Fulwell to Teddington opened to freight on 1 July 1894 and first carried passengers on 1 June 1901. Only one main street abuts the station – at its west end – London Road running between a trunk road south of Twickenham Stadium and the town centre to the south including the town's public section of riverside.
