London Buses Route 23
London Buses route 23 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Westbourne Park station and Hammersmith, it is operated by RATP Dev Transit London. History Route 23 was introduced on 18 July 1992 between Westbourne Park station and Liverpool Street bus station from First CentreWest's Westbourne Park garage. On 14 November 2003, Alexander ALX400 bodied Dennis Trident 2s replaced the AEC Routemasters that had operated it since its inception. In January 2009, the route's peak frequency was reduced from twelve buses per hour to ten, as part of Transport for London's policy of reducing the number of buses using Oxford Street in order to reduce congestion and pollution by 10% in 2009 and a further 10% in 2010. The off-peak service already operated at this frequency. On 5 January 2009, a bus operating on the route crashed into a shop in Westbourne Grove after swerving to avoid a van, injuring ten people. RATP Dev Transit London
RATP Dev Transit London is a joint venture between RATP Dev and Kelsian Group in London. It owns the London bus companies of London Sovereign, London United and London Transit. It commenced on 11 December 2021. History In September 2021, RATP Dev and SeaLink Travel Group (now Kelsian Group) announced they had agreed to form a joint venture to combine some of their Transport for London contracted bus operations. RATP hold an 87.5% shareholding, with Kelsian owning 12.5%. Dennis Trident 2
The Dennis Trident 2 is a 2-axle low-floor double-decker bus chassis originally manufactured by Dennis, which was unveiled in 1997 and replaced the Dennis Arrow. It was built by TransBus after Dennis was incorporated into the group in 2001, then from 2004, it was built by Alexander Dennis following the collapse of TransBus. Design The Trident 2 chassis features a transversely mounted engine on the right side, with the radiator mounted on the left side of the engine compartment. It could be fitted with C-series Euro II engine (later Cummins ISCe Euro III engine), coupled to Voith DIWA or ZF Ecomat gearbox. It was available with Alexander ALX400, Plaxton President and East Lancs Lolyne/ Myllennium Lolyne bodywork. London Buses Route 10
London Buses route 10 was a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. It ran between Hammersmith bus station and London King's Cross railway station, King's Cross station, and was operated by London United Busways, London United. History Route 10 commenced on 13 August 1988 to replace London Buses route 73, route 73 between Hammersmith and Hyde Park Corner following the latter being diverted to Victoria, London, Victoria. The initial route was between Hammersmith and King's Cross, London, King's Cross, and was run by the London United Busways, London United division. In April 1989, an allocation was introduced from the London Northern garage at Holloway, London, Holloway. Route 10 was extended to the back of Metroline#Holloway (HT), Holloway garage via York Way and Brecknock Road. Hammersmith Bus Station
Hammersmith bus station is located adjacent to the District & Piccadilly and Circle and Hammersmith & City lines London Underground stations in Hammersmith. It is owned and maintained by Transport for London. The bus station is divided into two sections (lower and upper stations). The routes which serve the lower station, outside Hammersmith Broadway, are 33, 72 (towards Roehampton), 110, 209, 218, 419, 485 and N266. The routes which serve the upper station, above Hammersmith Broadway, are 9, 23, 27, 72 (towards East Acton), 190, 211, 220, 267, 283 (towards East Acton), 295, 306, H91, N9, N11 and N97. Aldwych
Aldwych (pronounced ) is a street and the name of the area immediately surrounding it in central London, England, within the City of Westminster. The street starts east-northeast of Charing Cross, the conventional map centre-point of the city. The street's semi-circular design arises from its function, making navigable the gradient of the fall in levels between the roads connected by the street: the south end of Kingsway, and the Strand. London Buses Route 52
London Buses route 52 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. It runs between Willesden garage and Victoria bus station, and is operated by Metroline. History Route 52 began on 28 March 1923, running from Raynes Park to Ladbroke Grove. The service was changed many times, on 13 Feb 1924 it ran from Wormwood Scrubs to Tooting and later on, on 9 April 1924 the route was revised to run Ladbroke Grove to Victoria. It was extended to Mill Hill in 1932. Later, some services were extended on to Borehamwood on Monday to Saturday peak journeys where it was changed several times: in 1951, it was withdrawn from Warwick Road and Drayton Road to Elstree Way Hotel, but extended back on 3 February 1953, and further extended to Brook Road on 3 February 1954. Elgin Crescent
Elgin Crescent is a street in Notting Hill, London, England. It runs west from Portobello Road, crosses Ladbroke Grove and at its south-western end joins Clarendon Road. The section between Portobello Road and Kensington Park Road is formed of shops, cafes and restaurants, whilst the remainder is residential. The houses were built in the 1850s and 1860s, and most share communal gardens. Many are now listed buildings. East of Ladbroke Grove, it was originally called Elgin Road. Westbourne Grove is a retail road running across Notting Hill, an area of west London. Its western end is in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and its eastern end is in the City of Westminster; it runs from Kensington Park Road in the west to Queensway in the east, crossing over Portobello Road. It contains a mixture of independent and chain retailers, and has been termed both "fashionable" and "up-and-coming". The Notting Hill Carnival passes along the central part of Westbourne Grove. Ian Allan Publishing was an English publisher, established in 1942, which specialised in transport books. It was founded by Ian Allan. In 1942 Ian Allan, then working in the public relations department for the Southern Railway at Waterloo station, decided he could deal with many of the requests he received about rolling stock by collecting the information into a book.
