Lompoc Valley Flower Festival
The Lompoc Valley Flower Festival is an annual flower festival held in the city of Lompoc, located northern Santa Barbara County, California. The event is organized and coordinated by The Lompoc Valley Festival Association, and is held annually at Ryon Memorial Park, for 5 days from Wednesday to Sunday on the last full weekend in June. The Flower Festival started in 1952 and is named after the commercial flower fields that used to be plentiful around the city and Lompoc Valley. The festival features a carnival, live entertainment, food, arts and crafts, and a commercial flower center. The event includes the crowning of a Flower Festival Queen, and the Flower Festival Parade on Saturday morning. Lompoc ( ; Chumash: ''Lum Poc'') is a city in Santa Barbara County, California. Located on the Central Coast, Lompoc has a population of 43,834 as of July 2021. Lompoc has been inhabited for thousands of years by the Chumash people, who called the area Lum Poc, meaning "stagnant waters" or "lagoon" in the local Purisimeño language. The Spanish called the area Lompoco after Fermín de Lasuén had established Mission La Purísima in 1787. In 1837, the Mexican government sold the area as the Rancho Lompoc land grant. Rodeo () is a competitive equestrian sport that arose out of the working practices of cattle herding in Spain and Mexico, expanding throughout the Americas and to other nations. State Route 246 (SR 246) is a state highway in the U.S. state of California that runs from Lompoc east to Solvang and Santa Ynez, cutting through the Santa Ynez Valley and the Santa Barbara Wine Country.
