''Loksatta'' (''Lōksattā'') is a Marathi daily newspaper in Maharashtra, India. It is published by The Indian Express Group and was launched on 14 January 1948. ''Loksatta'' is published out of Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Thane, Palghar, Ahmednagar, Amravati, Aurangabad and Nashik. History Established in 1948, on the Makar Sankranti day, ''Loksatta'' gained notability through coverage of Mahatma Gandhi's assassination and subsequent developments. The founder of the Indian Express Group, Ramnath Goenka, remained dedicated to ''Loksatta''. After remaining the largest circulated standard Marathi daily for many years, by the late-90s, ''Loksatta'' saw competition from newer daily newspapers like ''Maharashtra Times''. By 1997, it only had a circulation of 400,000 in Mumbai, Pune, Ahmednagar and Nagpur combined. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (translation: Maharashtra Reformation Army; MNS) is a Regionalist far-right Indian political party based in the state of Maharashtra and operates on the ideology of "Hindutva" and "Marathi" Manus. It was founded on 9 March 2006 in Mumbai by Raj Thackeray after he left the Shiv Sena party due to differences with his cousin Uddhav Thackeray, who was the 19th Chief Minister Of Maharashtra and to his sidelining by the Shiv Sena in major decisions like distribution of election tickets. Kumar Ketkar
Kumar Ketkar is an Indian writer, politician and former journalist. He is the Chief Editor of Dainik Divya Marathi. He had started his journalistic career with ''The Economic Times''. He has also been the editor in chief of Marathi newspaper ''Loksatta.'' He has also worked with The Observer and the ''Maharashtra Times''. He is known for being a harsh critic of the BJP, RSS and Shiv Sena. On 12 March 2018 he was nominated to the Rajya Sabha on Congress ticket from Maharashtra. He is also a Member of Parliamentary Committee on External Affairs. Upon accepting the Rajya Sabha ticket, he faced severe criticism on the grounds that journalists should be independent and not support any mainstream political organisation. Madhav Yeshwant Gadkari (1928–2006) was an Indian journalist and the editor of Loksatta, a popular Marathi daily published by the Indian Express Group. He was also associated with the All India Radio, ''Maharashtra Times'', ''Sakal'' and their Goa edition, ''Gomantak Times'' Gomantak Times, 2015, Retrieved 27 September 2015 during his career. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian award of Padma Shri in 1990. Biography Gadkari was born into Chandraseniya Kayastha Prabhu (CKP) family on 25 September 1928 in Mumbai, in the Western Indian state of Maharashtra.
