Lois Lane is a Character (arts), fictional character appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, she first appeared in ''Action Comics'' Action Comics 1, #1 (June 1938). Lois is an award-winning journalist for the Metropolis (comics), Metropolis newspaper the ''Daily Planet'' and the primary Superman and Lois Lane, love interest of the superhero Superman and his alter ego, Clark Kent. In DC continuity, she is also his wife and the mother of their son, Jon Kent (DC Comics), Jon Kent, the newest Superboy in the DC Universe. Lois' physical appearance was originally based on Joanne Siegel, Joanne Carter, a model hired by Joe Shuster. For her character, Jerry Siegel was inspired by actress Glenda Farrell's portrayal of the fictional reporter Torchy Blane in a series of films. Siegel took her name from actress Lola Lane. Gary Frank (born 1969) is a British comics artist, notable for pencilling on ''Midnight Nation'' and ''Supreme Power'', both written by J. Michael Straczynski. He has also worked with author Peter David on ''The Incredible Hulk (comic book), The Incredible Hulk'' and ''Supergirl (comic book), Supergirl''. He had a creator ownership, creator-owned series, ''Kin (comics), Kin'', which he wrote himself, published by Top Cow Productions in 2000. Writer Geoff Johns, who has collaborated with Frank, has opined that Frank's rendition of Superman is the best of his generation and that the only other artist in the same league with Frank in this regard is Curt Swan.
