Lohani Caves
Lohani Caves are rock-cut caves and temples found near the abandoned Mandu site in southwest Madhya Pradesh, India. These excavations are dated to about the 11th and 12th century CE. The archaeological studies have yielded Hindu statues and carvings such as those of Shiva, Parvati, Vishnu and Lakshmi. These suggest that these were likely Hindu monasteries, probably belonging to the Shaivism tradition. It is near a group of Islamic monuments built after 13th century. This cluster of Hindu and Muslim monuments in Mandu, Dhar is about southwest of Bhopal and has been put in the tentative list of being a UNESCO world heritage site. Lohani Caves - Mandavgarh, (Mandu)
Lohani, also known as Nuhani, is a Pashtun tribal sub-group from among the Lodi tribe.Haroon Rashid, "History of the Pathans", Vol.III, p-367-89 They migrated to their present-day location in Tank, Frontier Region Tank, Lakki Marwat and Dera Ismail Khan in modern-day Pakistan from around Ghazni ( Zabulistan region) in modern-day Afghanistan during the late 1500s, coinciding with the final years of the Mughal Emperor Akbar's reign. Although other Lohani tribes had also made earlier deeper incursions into India, as far as Bihar, and settled therein during the days of the Lodi dynasty. History During the final years of the Mughal Emperor Akbar's reign, the Lohani tribes were expelled from their home in Ghazni after coming into conflict with the Sulaimankhel tribe. Dhar
Dhar is a city located in Dhar district of the Malwa region in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. The city is the administrative headquarters of the Dhar district. Before Indian independence from Great Britain, it was the capital of the Dhar princely state. Location Dhar is situated between 21°57' to 23°15' N and 74°37' to 75°37' E. The city is bordered in the north by Ratlam, to the east by parts of Indore, in the south by Barwani, and to the west by Jhabua and Alirajpur. The town is located west of Mhow.
