Lockport, Manitoba
Lockport is a small unincorporated community in Manitoba, Canada. It is located north of the city of Winnipeg along the Red River. The community is split between the Rural Municipalities of St. Andrews (west of the river) and St. Clements (east of the river). The Red River Floodway rejoins the Red River just down river from Lockport. Lockport is also a popular angling location. Lockport Provincial Park is located on the east bank of the river, where archeological studies have found evidence of human activity for 3,000 years. Black River, New York
Black River is a village in Jefferson County, New York, United States. The population was 1,348 at the 2010 census. The village is on the border of the towns of Le Ray and Rutland, east of Watertown. History The area was first settled around 1806 by the erection of a mill on the south side of the Black River. The village was previously called "Lockport", and grew to include both sides of the river as well as two small river islands. On February 20, 1890, a large fire destroyed the business section of the downtown. Buildings destroyed by the fire included the Poor Block (which included a three-story building with an opera house on the third floor); the D.J. Lockport Mall was an enclosed shopping mall in South Lockport, New York located on Transit Road ( NY 78). It opened in 1971 and included three anchor stores as well as a movie theater. The mall closed in 2006 except for the Bon-Ton department store. First announced in 2007, plans for a Walmart supercenter would displace the rest of the former mall building. The mall's demolition began in April 2011. History Lockport Mall opened in 1971 and was acquired by General Growth Properties seven years later. Original tenants included Family Bargain Center (F. B. Lockport is a town in Niagara County, New York, United States. The population was 20,529 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from the series of canal locks on the Erie Canal. The locks lift boats from the lowland of Lake Ontario past the Niagara Escarpment. The Town of Lockport is in the south-central part of the county and surrounds the City of Lockport. History Many early settlers were Quakers and helped make the area a bastion of anti-slavery. The Town of Lockport was established in 1824 from Cambria and Royalton, the same year the canal was completed up to the City of Lockport. Cold Springs Cemetery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.
