Lockleaze
Lockleaze is an area and council ward in the northern suburbs of the city of Bristol, England, north of the city centre, south of Filton, east of Horfield and west of Frenchay. Lockleaze is a residential area of social housing built on the western flank of Purdown on a north–south axis, that was initially separated from Horfield by the main Bristol to South Wales railway line. The suburb was developed immediately after World War II. Although much of the housing was owned by Bristol Corporation, some are now privately owned. The Lockleaze council ward was extended to include older Bristol council housing and the border with Horfield is the thoroughfare, Filton Avenue. Lockleaze School was designed by the city architect A.H. Clarke and built in 1954. It is an early example of 'Method Building' using pre-cast frame with pre-stressed floors and brick panel walling. Bristol North West (UK Parliament Constituency)
Bristol North West is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2017 by Darren Jones of the Labour Party. Constituency profile The seat covers northwest parts of Bristol, extending to the Severn Estuary. Horfield
Horfield is a suburb of the city of Bristol, in southwest England. It lies on Bristol's northern edge, its border with Filton marking part of the boundary between Bristol and South Gloucestershire. Bishopston lies directly to the south. Monks Park and Golden Hill are to the west. Lockleaze and Ashley Down are on the eastern fringe. The Gloucester Road ( A38) runs north–south through the suburb. Horfield is also the name of a ward for Bristol City Council. The ward includes Monks Park and Southmead Hospital, but does not include the southern part of Horfield, including Horfield Common and Horfield Prison, which is in Bishopston ward. Purdown BT Tower
Purdown BT Tower, also known as Purdown Transmitter (sometimes written as ''Pur Down''), is a 70.1 metres (230 ft) tall telecommunications tower in Bristol, England. Built in 1970 for the British Telecom microwave network, it is now used to transmit radio and provide mobile phone coverage. The tower is located on a hill, Purdown, in Stoke Park in the Lockleaze suburb, about north of the city centre. It is a prominent landmark visible from many areas of the city, and from major transport routes on the approach to the city, including the M32 motorway and Filton Bank railway. The tower is recorded as a Valued Landmark by Bristol City Council, and it has been featured in locally-produced media, such as the opening sequence of TV series Skins (2008). ''Some People'' is a 1962 film directed by Clive Donner. It stars Kenneth More and Ray Brooks (actor), Ray Brooks and is centred on the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme. Premise An aircraft engineer, who also acts as a voluntary choirmaster and youth worker (played by Kenneth More) tries to help a group of teenagers in Bristol, by encouraging positive social development after they lose their motorcycle licences. They are all in dead-end jobs with no home life and on the fringes of petty crime, but are musically talented. Joseph Nash
Joseph Nash (17 December 180919 December 1878) was an English watercolour painter and lithographer, specialising in historical buildings. His major work was the 4-volume ''Mansions of England in the Olden Time'', published from 1839–49. Biography Nash was born in Great Marlow in Buckinghamshire, the oldest son of the Reverend Okey Nash who owned Manor House School in Croydon which Joseph went on to attend. He later studied with the artist and architect Augustus Charles Pugin, with whom he travelled to France to assist and prepare architectural drawings for a book entitled ''Paris and its Environs'', published in 1830.
