The Shire of Belmont is a former local government area of Queensland, Australia, located in eastern Brisbane including the current suburb of Belmont. History The Bulimba Division was one of the original divisions created on 11 November 1879 under the ''Divisional Boards Act 1879'' with a population of 2007. On 4 January 1888, the No. 2 subdivision of Bulimba Division was separated to create the new Kianawah Division (later renamed Wynnum Division). On 19 January 1888, the No. 1 subdivision of Bulimba Division was separated to create Balmoral Division. On 24 October 1888, the western part of the division was split off to create Shire of Coorparoo. On 17 March 1892, there was an alteration of boundaries. The Pritchard's Road land and gravel reserve (100 acres) were transferred from Kianawah Division to Balmoral Division. Surfers Paradise is a Suburbs and localities (Australia), suburb in the City of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. In the , Surfers Paradise had a population of 23,689 people. Colloquially known as "Surfers", the suburb has many high-rise apartment buildings and a wide surf beach. The feature of the heart of the suburb is Cavill Avenue, Cavill Mall, which runs through the shopping and entertainment precinct. Cavill Avenue, named after Jim Cavill, an early hotel owner, is one of the busiest shopping strips in Queensland, and the centre of activity for night life. One of the features of the area is the Surfers Paradise Meter Maids designed to build goodwill with tourists. Surfers Paradise is the Gold Coast, Queensland, Gold Coast's entertainment and tourism centre and the suburb's high-rise buildings are the best known feature of the city's skyline. The Shire of Yeerongpilly was a local government area in the southern suburbs of Brisbane, Queensland. The shire, administered from Rocklea, covered an area of , and existed as a local government entity from 1879 until 1925, when it was split up following the creation of the City of Brisbane under the ''City of Brisbane Act 1924''. History On 11 November 1879, the Yeerongpilly Division was created as one of 74 divisions within Queensland under the ''Divisional Boards Act 1879'' with a population of 3428. It included and took its name from Yeerongpilly (now a suburb of Brisbane). On 16 October 1886, parts of Yeerongpilly Division (from South Brisbane to Rocklea and including Yeerongpilly itself) were excised to create Stephens Division (later Shire of Stephens). The Shire of Toombul was a local government area of Queensland, Australia, located in northern Brisbane from 1883 to 1925. History The Nundah Division was one of the original divisions created on 11 November 1879 under the ''Divisional Boards Act of 1879''. The division was a large one, ranging from the Pine River in the north to the Brisbane River in the south and from Moreton Bay in the east to Chinaman's Creek (now South Pine River) in the west. The residents in the southern part of the division (the Toombul area) felt their needs were quite distinct from those further north and immediately began to agitate for the division to be split. On 1 November 1883, the Toombul Division was separated from the Nundah Division (which was later renamed the Kedron Division). The Shire of Tingalpa was a local government area in the south-eastern suburbs of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The shire, administered from Mount Cotton, covered an area of , and existed as a local government entity from 1879 until 1949. History On 11 November 1879, the Tingalpa Division was created as one of 74 divisions within Queensland under the ''Divisional Boards Act 1879'' with a population of 1,490. However, the residents of Cleveland sought to be independent of the division and on 29 May 1885, Cleveland Division was separated from Tingalpa Division. With the passage of the ''Local Authorities Act 1902'', the Tingalpa Division became the Shire of Tingalpa on 31 March 1903. The Shire of Taringa is a former local government area of Queensland, Australia, located in western Brisbane. Its administrative centre was Taringa (now a suburb of City of Brisbane). It existed from 1890 to 1925. History Toowong Division was one of the original divisions created on 11 November 1879 under the ''Divisional Boards Act of 1879''. On 20 May 1880, the more populated area of the district was proclaimed as the Shire of Toowong, with the remaining part of the Toowong Division being renamed Indooroopilly Division on 2 June 1880. The shire, administered from Annerley, covered an area of , and existed as a local government entity from 1886 until 1925, when it was amalgamated into the City of Brisbane under the ''City of Brisbane Act 1924''. History On 11 November 1879, the Yeerongpilly Division was created as one of 74 divisions within Queensland under the ''Divisional Boards Act 1879''.
