Lloyd Monsen
Lloyd Monsen (born May 7, 1931) is a retired American soccer Striker (association football), forward and baseball pitcher. Monsen spent eleven seasons in the American Soccer League (1933-1983), American Soccer League as well as several years in the lower division German American Soccer League and National Soccer League of New York. He earned three cap (sports), caps with the United States men's national soccer team, U.S. national team between 1952 and 1957 and was a member of the U.S. Olympic soccer teams at both the 1952 Summer Olympics, 1952 and 1956 Summer Olympics. He is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Soccer Youth Monsen was born in Brooklyn, New York and grew up in New York City, attending Fort Hamilton High School. His soccer career began when he joined the Gjoa Juniors, an ethnically Norwegian team, of the Empire State Junior League when he was sixteen. National Challenge Cup
The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, commonly known as the U.S. Open Cup (USOC), is a knockout cup competition in men's soccer in the United States of America. It is the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in that country. The 2023 U.S. Open Cup competition is currently underway, with the qualifying stages taking place from September 17 - December 18, 2022. The competition was first held during the 1913–1914 season as the National Challenge Cup, with Brooklyn Field Club winning a trophy donated by Thomas Dewar for the promotion of American soccer. Helsinki Olympic Stadium
The Helsinki Olympic Stadium ( fi, Helsingin Olympiastadion; sv, Helsingfors Olympiastadion), located in the Töölö district about from the centre of the Finnish capital Helsinki, is the largest stadium in the country, nowadays mainly used for hosting sports events and big concerts. Walter Giesler
Walter John Giesler (September 6, 1909 – July 5, 1976) was an American soccer administrator, and coach best known for coaching the United States men's national soccer team in the 1950 FIFA World Cup. Early life and career Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Giesler would become a towering figure on the Midwestern sports landscape. After playing at McBride High School, he would compete in several amateur and professional leagues, including the Ben Millers in the St. Louis Soccer League. U.S. Soccer Following his playing days, he became an administrator and referee, and owned a sporting goods business in St. Louis. Giesler was the second vice-president of the United States Soccer Football Association, serving from 1945 to 1948. He was then elected president and served in that capacity from 1948 until 1949.
