David Lloyd George
David Lloyd George, 1st Earl Lloyd-George of Dwyfor, (17 January 1863 – 26 March 1945) was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1916 to 1922. He was a Liberal Party politician from Wales, known for leading the United Kingdom during the First World War, social reform policies including the National Insurance Act 1911, his role in the Paris Peace Conference, and negotiating the establishment of the Irish Free State. Early in his career, he was known for the disestablishment of the Church of England in Wales and support of Welsh devolution. He was the last Liberal Party prime minister; the party fell into third party status shortly after the end of his premiership. Lloyd George was born on 17 January 1863 in Chorlton-on-Medlock, Manchester, to Welsh parents. Earl Lloyd-George Of Dwyfor
Earl Lloyd-George of Dwyfor is a title in the peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created in 1945 for Liberal parliamentarian David Lloyd George who served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1908 to 1915 and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1916 to 1922. He was created Viscount Gwynedd, of Dwyfor in the County of Caernarvon, also in the peerage of the United Kingdom, at the same time. Lloyd George's family name is not hyphenated, although it was required to appear as such in his title, as in other cases such as Andrew Lloyd Webber, Baron Lloyd-Webber. Both the territorial designations Dwyfor and Gwynedd are ancient Welsh placenames. They were subsequently revived, in 1974, for a local government district and county respectively. Frances Lloyd George, Countess Lloyd-George of Dwyfor, (née Stevenson; 7 October 1888 – 5 December 1972) was the mistress, personal secretary, confidante and second wife of British Prime Minister David Lloyd George. Frances Louise Stevenson was born in London. She was the daughter of a Lowland Scottish father and a mother of mixed French and Italian extraction. She was educated at Clapham High School, where in the fifth form she had made friends with Mair, Lloyd George's oldest daughter, and then at Royal Holloway College where she studied Classics. In July 1911, Lloyd George, then Chancellor of the Exchequer, hired Stevenson as a governess for his youngest daughter Megan. Lloyd George and Stevenson were soon attracted to each other. Gwilym Lloyd George, 1st Viscount Tenby, (4 December 1894 – 14 February 1967) was a Welsh politician and cabinet minister. The younger son of David Lloyd George, he served as Home Secretary from 1954 to 1957. Dame Margaret Lloyd George (; 4 November 1864 – 20 January 1941) was a Welsh humanitarian and one of the first seven women magistrates appointed in Britain in 1919. She was the wife of Prime Minister David Lloyd George from 1888 until her death in 1941. Richard Lloyd George, 2nd Earl Lloyd-George of Dwyfor (15 February 1889 – 1 May 1968) was a British soldier and peer in the peerage of the United Kingdom, a member of the House of Lords from 1945 until his death. The son of the Liberal prime minister David Lloyd George by his first wife, Margaret Owen, Lloyd George was educated at Portmadoc School and Christ's College, Cambridge, graduating BA in 1910. During the First World War he was commissioned into the Royal Engineers and rose to the rank of Major. He became an associate member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and served in the British Army again during the Second World War. Mount Lloyd George
Mount Lloyd George is a peak in British Columbia, Canada, rising to a prominence of above Lloyd George Pass. The mountain is located NE of Haworth Lake in Kwadacha Wilderness Provincial Park. Its line parent is Mount Sylvia, away. It is part of the Northern Rocky Mountains. Geology Lying in the Muskwa Ranges, Mount Lloyd George is a castellated limestone and quartzite peak. The diamictite sedimentary deposits of the mountain, several kilometers thick, date to the late Precambrian and probably have a glacial-marine origin. The age of the diamictite is not certain. It may be associated with either the Toby or the Vreeland formations of the North American Cordillera. Ice field The Lloyd George Icefield in 1998 covered over . There is a major concentration of glaciers around the mountain. The icefield is about from north to south and from east to west, bounded by the Warneford River and the Tuchodi River.
