Carlism ( eu, Karlismo; ca, Carlisme; ; ) is a Traditionalist and Legitimist political movement in Spain aimed at establishing an alternative branch of the Bourbon dynasty – one descended from Don Carlos, Count of Molina (1788–1855) – on the Spanish throne. The movement was founded in consequence of a dispute over the succession laws and widespread dissatisfaction with the Alfonsine line of the House of Bourbon. It was at its strongest in the 1830s but experienced a revival following Spain's defeat in the Spanish–American War in 1898, when Spain lost its last remaining significant overseas territories of the Philippines, Cuba, Guam, and Puerto Rico to the United States. Carlism was a significant force in Spanish politics from 1833 until the end of the Francoist regime in 1975. Second Carlist War
The Second Carlist War, or the War of the Matiners (Catalan for "early-risers," so-called from the harassing action that took place at the earliest hours of the morning), was a civil war occurring in Spain. Some historians consider it a direct Catalan revolt against Madrid, fought primarily in Catalonia by the Carlists under General Ramón Cabrera against the forces of the government of Isabella II. The uprising began in September 1846 and continued until May 1849, spreading to Galicia. Theoretically, the war was fought to facilitate the marriage of Isabella II with the Carlist pretender, Carlos de Borbón (or ''Carlos VI''), which was supported by some ''doctrinaire'' elements from the moderate party and by the Carlists. The marriage never took place, as Isabella II was wed to Francisco de Borbón. Josep Masgoret I Marcó
Josep Masgoret i Marcó (Miramar, Alt Camp, Catalonia, c. 1820– France, 1883) was one of the most prominent Carlist warlords of Catalonia during the Second Carlist War. Although he was one of the most wealthy landowners of Tarragona, he decided to abandon his family, and in 1838, he was appointed commander of Tarragona along with Maties de Vall and '' Lo Llarg de Copons''. He participated in the so-called Seven Years' War, which earned him considerable reputation. After the war, he was promoted to brigadier general. He went into exile for some time afterwards, but later returned to fight in the so-called War of the Early-Risers (1846–49), on 1 April 1848, as field marshal of the Carlist forces. He organized a so-called Council of Catalonia in order to solve local administrative economic, civil and military issues. Vilallonga Del Camp
Vilallonga del Camp is a municipality in the Province of Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain. According to 2009 its population was 1,889 inhabitants. Vilallonga del Camp is the only village within the municipality. It is located north of the provincial capital of Tarragona, roughly 12 miles from the coast. It lies along the A-27 road, north of El Morell and La Pobla de Mafumet, near El Rourell, just to the northeast.
