Llap River
The Lab ( sr-Cyrl, Лаб) or Llap ( sq, Llapi), is a river in the north-eastern part of Kosovo. The long right tributary to the Sitnica river, it is the main river in the Llap (region) depression. Near its origin are remains of medieval palace of Serbian king Milutin (1282-1321) called Vrhlab (Serbian Cyrillic: , which means ''origin of the Lab''). Name etymology The etymology of the river's name is derived from a pre-Slavic form ''Alb'' that underwent linguistic metathesis within Slavic giving the final form as ''Lab''.Županić, Niko (1936). Kopaonik
Kopaonik ( sr-cyr, Копаоник, ; sq, Kopaoniku) is a mountain range located in Serbia and Kosovo. The highest point is the Pančić's Peak with . The central part of the Kopaonik plateau was declared a national park in 1981 which today covers an area of . On the slopes of the mountain range there is a Kopaonik ski resort which is one of the largest in Southeast Europe. There are 25 ski lifts with capacity of 32,000 skiers per hour. Geography Stretching for in the north-south direction, between the rivers of Lab and Sitnica on the south and Jošanica on the north, Kopaonik is one of the largest and longest mountains in Serbia. Sitnica
The Sitnica ( sq, Sitnicë; sr-Cyrl, Ситница) is a river in Kosovo. It flows into the Ibar at Mitrovica, and it is the longest river that flows completely within Kosovo. History In the 14th century, during the reign of king Milutin, a canal connecting the Sazlija and the river Nerodimka was dug, creating an artificial bifurcation, since the Nerodimka flows to the south into the Lepenac river and thus belongs to the Aegean Sea drainage basin, while the Sitnica flows to the north, into the Ibar river and belongs to the Black Sea drainage basin. After World War II, the canal was covered with earth again. Vučitrn
Vushtrri ( sq-definite, Vushtrria) or Vučitrn ( sr-Cyrl, Вучитрн), is a city and municipality located in the Mitrovica District in northern Kosovo. According to the 2011 census, the town of Vushtrri has 26,964 inhabitants, while the municipality has 69,870 inhabitants. Vushtrri is surrounded by the city of Mitrovica to the north, Podujeva in the east, Obiliq in the south, Drenas in the south-west, and Skënderaj in the west. The municipality of Vushtrri has 67 villages. In antiquity, Vushtrri may have been known as Viciana. When the Roman Empire invaded Dardania in the 1st century BC, the Romans added the Latin suffix 'um' to the name of Viciana, therefore becoming Vicianum. Llap (region)
Llap Region ( sq, Krahina e Llapit, lit=Region of Llap; sr, Лабско поље, Labsko polje, lit=Plain of Lab) is a region located in the north-eastern part of Kosovo. Llap in the broadest sense includes the watershed of the Llap river. The Lab water collection begins in the mount of Kopaonik in the north and west, and ends by joining the Sitnica river in Lumadh, municipality of Vushtrri, in the north-west of Prishtina. The topographic watershed of the Lab covers an area of 945.4 km. This area approximately corresponds to the administrative territory of the municipality of Podujevo in the current division of Kosovo. Podujevo as a city in the Llap region is the most important economic, political, administrative, educational, cultural and health center. About 120 villages gravitate to this region, although some of them administratively belong to the municipalities of Prishtina, Vushtrri or Mitrovica.
