Llais Gwynedd
(, Voice of Gwynedd) is a small regionalist political party based in Gwynedd in North Wales. The party formed following the Plaid Cymru executive's proposal to more than halve the number of primary schools in Gwynedd by closing rural schools. Many of the party's members are former members of Plaid. The campaign was founded as , or "People's Voice", but the name was changed because of another party by that name in Blaenau Gwent. Electoral history The party won twelve seats on Gwynedd Council in the 2008 UK Local Elections, ending overall control of the council by Plaid Cymru. They won seven seats in Dwyfor, three in Meirionnydd and two in Arfon. Llais Gwynedd won another seat in Blaenau Ffestiniog in June (the poll had been postponed due to the death of the Labour candidate) giving them a total of 13 seats on Gwynedd Council. Dafydd Elis-Thomas
Dafydd Elis-Thomas, Baron Elis-Thomas (born 18 October 1946) is a Welsh politician who served as the Leader of Plaid Cymru from 1984 to 1991 and represented the Dwyfor Meirionnydd constituency in the Senedd from 1999 to 2021. Born in Carmarthen, Wales, he was raised in Ceredigion and the Conwy Valley. He represented Merioneth, then Meirionnydd Nant Conwy constituencies as a Member of Parliament from 1974 to 1992 and was the Llywydd of the Senedd (the speaker) from its inception in 1999 to 2011. He is a member of the House of Lords, a former leader of Plaid Cymru, and, since 2004, a privy counsellor. On 14 October 2016 he left the party in order to support the Welsh Government and sat as an independent in the Senedd. In November 2017, he joined the Welsh Government. He was the Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism until May 2021. Seiont is an electoral ward in the town of Caernarfon, Gwynedd, Wales, electing councillors to the town council and Gwynedd Council. Description The Seiont ward covers an area either side of the Afon Seiont in the southern part of the community. The ward includes the southern part of Caernarfon town centre, including Caernarfon Castle, Caernarfon railway station and the housing estates south of the A4085. Seiont is bordered to the north by the A4085 (Constantine Road) and Caernarfon High Street, to the northwest by the Menai Strait and is surrounded to the southeast and southwest by the Bontnewydd ward. The Caernarfon Criminal Justice Centre is a Crown Court venue, which deals with criminal cases, in Llanberis Road, Caernarfon, Wales. History Until the early 21st century, criminal court hearings in Caernarfon were held in the County Hall at Castle Ditch. However, as the number of court cases in Caernarfon grew, it became necessary to commission a more modern courthouse for criminal matters: the site selected in Llanberis Road had been occupied by Segontium School, which had dated from 1912 but which had closed in 2005. Work on the new building started in May 2007, when the Lord Chancellor, Lord Falconer, cut the first sod. It was designed by Austin-Smith:Lord in the Modernist style, built by Balfour Beatty in dark blue and red brick at a cost of £12 million and was completed in May 2009.
