Lièpvre (; ) is a commune in the Haut-Rhin department in Grand Est in north-eastern France. A monastery was built here in the eighth century by Saint Fulrad, who filled it with relics of Saint Cucuphas and Saint Alexander. Geography The municipality is nestled in the Liepvrette river valley as the river descends from the main chain of the Vosges into the Col des Bagenelles, a mountain pass in the Vosges. The Liepvrette runs northeast through Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines before reaching Lièpvre. Below Lièpvre, the river runs between the ruins of Frankenbourg castle in the north and the castle of Haut-Koenigsbourg in the south then across the municipality of Scherwiller. The Liepvrette then joins the river Giessen (Scheer in former times), which flows from the Val de Villé, before emptying into the river Ill near Sélestat. Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines
Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines (; ; Alsatian: ''Màrkìrisch'') is a commune in the Haut-Rhin department and Grand Est region of north-eastern France. Geography Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines is located in the massif of the Vosges Mountains, where it occupies the V-shaped valley of the . Nearby Lorraine is accessible by road over the (772 m) or the Tunnel Maurice-Lemaire (reopened, following a major upgrade, in October 2008). The (903 m) leads to the Col du Bonhomme and to the Route des Crêtes (''Road of the Ridges''). The Col du Haut de Ribeauvillé (742 m, 2,412 feet) gives direct access to Ribeauvillé, situated to the southeast. Sélestat in the Bas Rhin, a much more substantial commercial and political focus for the region, is just to the east, along the Liepvrette valley. Taennchel
The Taennchel is one of the summits of the Vosges Mountains, rising to . The Taennchel rises at the East of France, in the département of Haut-Rhin (region Alsace), halfway between Strasbourg to the North and Mulhouse to the South, around from both cities. The general area around the crest, which is 6 km long, is enigmatic. The ground is strewn with rocks and various inscriptions, many of them undeciphered and remaining mysterious. Another curiosity is the "pagan wall" which covers its sides and whose origin is unknown. The summit shelters numerous vegetable and animal species, including the lynx, which was reintroduced to the area during the 20th century. Sélestat
Sélestat (; Alsatian: ''Schlettstàdt''; German: ''Schlettstadt'') is a commune in the Grand Est region of France. An administrative division (Subprefectures in France, sous-préfecture) of the Bas-Rhin Departments of France, department, the town lies on the Ill (France), Ill river, from the Rhine and the Germany, German border. Fulrad
Saint Fulrad (french: Fulrade; la, Fulradus) was born in 710 into a wealthy family, and died on July 16, 784 as the Abbot of Saint-DenisBunson and Bunson 2003, pp.345. He was the counselor of both Pippin and Charlemagne. Historians see Fulrad as important due to his significance in the rise of the Frankish Kingdom, and the insight he gives into early Carolingian society.DeLeeuw 1995, pp.431. He was noted to have been always on the side on Charlemagne, especially during the attack from the Saxons on Regnum Francorum (Latin for Frankia), and the Royal Mandatum (a royal official of the Carolingian administrative hierarchy). Saint Cucuphas
Saint Cucuphas (also ''Cucufas'' or ''Qaqophas'', ca, Cugat, Culgat, Cougat, es, Cucufate, Cucufato, Cocoba(s), french: Cucuphat, Cucufa, Cucuphat, Quiquenfat, gl, Covade, Cobad, oc, Cophan, ast, Cucao) is a martyr of Spain.
