Liwaa Yazji
Liwaa Yazji, alternative spelling Liwaa Yazaji, (, born 1977 in Moscow, Soviet Union) is a Syrian filmmaker, playwright, TV screenwriter, dramaturge and poet. Her works, written in Arabic, have been translated into English and presented in the United Kingdom, the US and, in original Arabic versions, in Arab states. Early life and education Yazji was born to Syrian parents Haidar Yazaji (1946–2014), an artist, and Salwa Abdullah, who is a gynecologist and served as Minister of Social Affairs and Labour in the Syrian government from 2020 to 2021. Liwaa Yazji spent her early childhood years in Moscow, where her parents were completing their academic studies. The family returned to Syria in the early 1980s and stayed in the city of Aleppo for some years, before they moved to Damascus, where she finished her elementary, preparatory and secondary schooling. A première, also spelled premiere, is the debut (first public presentation) of a play, film, dance, or musical composition. Poets House is a national literary center and poetry library based in New York City. It contains more than 70,000 volumes of poetry, and is free and open to the public. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, they temporarily suspended operations in November 2020. Mamdouh Adwan ( ar, ممدوح عدوان, 23 November 1941 – 19 December 2004) was a prolific Syrian writer, poet, playwright and critic. He published his first collection of poetry, ''al-Dhul al-Akhdhar'' he Green Shadowin 1967 and afterwards published 18 further collections. He also published two novels, twenty-five plays, translated twenty-three books from English into Arabic, including the ''Iliad'', the ''Odyssey,'' a biography of George Orwell, the ''Report to Greco'' by Nikos Kazantzakis, and wrote a number of television series. He wrote regularly on Arab current affairs, and also taught at the Higher Institute for Dramatic Arts in Damascus. Only few of his works have been published in English, notably in Banipal magazine. ''Saved'' is a play by Edward Bond which premiered at the Royal Court Theatre, London, in November 1965. The play itself is set in London during the 1960s. Its subject is the cultural poverty and frustration of a generation of young people on the dole and living on council estates.
