Livingston Independent School District (LISD) is a public school district based in Livingston, Texas, United States. LISD celebrated its 100th anniversary on April 26, 2008. In addition to Livingston, the district also serves the census-designated places of Indian Springs and West Livingston, a portion of the Big Thicket Lake Estates CDP, and a portion of the community of Blanchard. Livingston is a town in and the county seat of Polk County, Texas. With a population of 5,640 at the 2020 census, it is the largest city in Polk County. It is located about 46 miles south of Lufkin and was originally settled in 1835 as Springfield. Its name was changed in 1846 to Livingston, when it was designated as the county seat of Polk County. The Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation is located to the east of Livingston. This people traditionally occupied territory in what is now east Texas and Louisiana. Big Thicket Lake Estates is a census-designated place (CDP) in Polk and Liberty counties, Texas, United States. This was a new CDP for the 2010 census, with a population of 742, decreasing to 514 at the 2020 census. Geography Big Thicket Lake Estates is located along the southern border of Polk County and the northern border of Liberty County at (30.487388, -94.767885). Blanchard, Texas
Blanchard is an unincorporated community located at the junction of Farm Roads 3126 and 2457, about 82 miles north of Houston in Polk County, Texas, United States. In the early 1900s, a railroad stop established in the area was named Blanchard by William Carlisle, owner of the sawmill at nearby Onalaska, after his brother-in-law, Ben Blanchard, of New York. In 1949, the rail line, which had been operated by the Waco, Beaumont, Trinity & Sabine Railway Co. since 1923, was abandoned. When Lake Livingston was constructed in 1968, a series of roads and parks was developed in the area. Blanchard's population was estimated at 50 in the mid-1920s, mid-1980s, and early 1990s.
