is a Japanese singer, who is best known for her work throughout the 1990s, most particularly for her singles which were performed for and featured in anime, most notably the ''Neon Genesis Evangelion'' franchise. Career Takahashi began her career in 1991, and released her first album, ''Pizzicato'', in 1992, which reached #28 on the Oricon weekly charts. In the following years, she released the albums ''Kugatsu no Sotsugyō'' which charted, and '' Watashi wo Mitsukete'', which did not achieve the same success of her previous albums. In 1995, she released the single , which was used as the opening song in the anime series ''Neon Genesis Evangelion''. The song has received gold and platinum certifications, charted on the Oricon weekly chart numerous times, and has frequently been cited as one of the most influential songs used in anime. Kitty Films (キティフィルム ''Kiti Firumu'') was a production company established in 1972 in Japan. History The company was first established in 1972 as Kitty Music Corporation under Hidenori Taga. It was a subsidiary of Polydor and MCA Inc., producing TV drama soundtracks. Their first was for the 1972 film ''Hajimete no Tabi''. By 1979 the company began to branch off into live action with the films ''Kagirinaku toumei ni chikai buru'' and ''Lady Oscar'' (adaptation of the manga ''The Rose of Versailles'', Kitty had no association with the 1979 anime version of the latter, which was made by Tokyo Movie Shinsha). The franchise has had various soundtracks, remix albums and compilations released around it. The franchise has sold more than 9million albums and singles. Shirō Sagisu composed most of the music for ''Neon Genesis Evangelion'' and for the original TV show's three OST albums. He received the 1997 Kobe Animation award for "Best Music Score". King Records and their label Starchild (specializing in music, animation and film) distributed most of the albums, singles and box sets. For the anime series, Yoko Takahashi performed the song "A Cruel Angel's Thesis" which was used as the opening theme song for the series. The song "Fly Me to the Moon" originally by Bart Howard was performed by various voice actors from the anime series and these versions of the song were used as the ending theme song for the series.
