''Living and Dying in ¾ Time'' is the fourth studio album by American popular-music singer and songwriter Jimmy Buffett James William Buffett (born December 25, 1946) is an American singer-songwriter, musician, author, and businessman. He is best known for his music, which often portrays an "island escapism" lifestyle. Together with his Coral Reefer Band, Buffet ... and the second major-label album in Buffett's Don Gant-produced "Key West phase". It was initially released in February 1974 as his second album for Dunhill Records, Dunhill. It contains the song "Come Monday", his first Billboard Hot 100, top-40 hit single. Despite the title, not all the songs on the album are in time signature. The lyrics of "Nautical Wheelers" on Buffett's subsequent album, ''A1A (album), A1A'', refer to "living and dying in ¾ time" and the song is also in time. Michael Utley
Michael Edward Utley is an American musician, songwriter, and record producer for Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band. He is the musical director of the band. Born in Blytheville in Mississippi County, Arkansas, he graduated from the University of Arkansas where he was initiated into the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was recognized by Sigma Chi as a Significant Sig in 2017. Early in his career, Utley worked with the house band for Atlantic Records in Miami, Florida's Criteria Studios backing performers such as Aretha Franklin, Jerry Jeff Walker, and the Allman Brothers and in California playing with Rita Coolidge and Kris Kristofferson. Thomas Clark Cogbill (April 8, 1932 – December 7, 1982) was an American bassist, guitarist and record producer known for his work in R&B, soul and country music. Life and career Cogbill was born in Johnson Grove, Tennessee. He was a highly sought-after session and studio musician who appeared on many now-classic recordings of the 1960s and 1970s, especially those recorded in Nashville, Memphis and Muscle Shoals. He has been credited as an influence by many bass guitarists, including Jerry Jemmott & Jaco Pastorius. In the late 1960s and early 1970s Cogbill worked as a record producer at American Sound Studio in Memphis and was part of the studio's house rhythm section, known as the Memphis Boys. "God's Own Drunk" is a monologue by Lord Buckley that musicians have since adapted into different types of songs; most notably, Jimmy Buffett, who first recorded his rendition for '' Living and Dying in ¾ Time'' and has since released a single of a live performance in 2011. ''Willis Alan Ramsey'' is the sole studio release by the Texas songwriter Willis Alan Ramsey. The album's genre is hard to categorize with touches of country, country rock, folk, and folk rock. The tunes range from the reflection and regret of "The Ballad of Spider John" to a heartfelt tribute to Woody Guthrie on "Boy from Oklahoma". It was produced by Travis Turk, released in 1976 on Andy Williams's small Barnaby Records label. This was second album that Buffett recorded, and was his final album with Barnaby, signing next with Dunhill Records, Dunhill. Following lackluster sales of Buffett's first album, ''Down to Earth'', Barnaby Records would claim that the masters to ''High Cumberland Jubilee'' had been lost, hence it has been referred to as Buffett's "lost album." In 1976, after Buffett had left Barnaby and moved to Key West, released numerous additional albums, and become a star, the masters were finally found and the album released. Willis Alan Ramsey (born 5 March 1951) is an American singer/songwriter, a cult legend among fans of Americana and Texas country. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and raised in Dallas, Texas.
