Living On 'Hope'
''Living on 'Hope (Swedish: ''Leva på 'Hoppet) is a 1951 Swedish comedy film directed by Göran Gentele and starring Meg Westergren, Ingrid Thulin, Per Oscarsson and Gunvor Pontén.Qvist & Von Bagh p.147 It was shot at the Sundbyberg Studios of Europa Film in Stockholm and on location around the city. The film's sets were designed by the art director Arne Åkermark. At the 1st Berlin International Film Festival it won the Silver Bear (Comedies) award. Synopsis Daydreaming theatre student Vivi imagines herself and her friends setting up a travelling theatrical troupe on a old cargo ship named 'Hope' (Hoppet) and enjoying a series of adventures. Göran Gentele
Göran Gentele (29 September 1917 – 18 July 1972) was a Swedish actor, director, and opera manager. He was briefly the general manager of the Metropolitan Opera in New York City in 1972. Biography Born in Stockholm, Gentele studied from 1944 until 1946 at the Royal Dramatic Training Academy, beginning a brief career as a film actor not long afterwards. He soon turned to directing, working for a time at the Royal Dramatic Theatre and then at the Royal Swedish Opera, where his more notable productions included Gian Carlo Menotti's ''The Consul'' and Karl-Birger Blomdahl's ''Aniara''. He became director of the company in 1963. He also directed films during approximately the same period (1947 to 1969), making at least 15 feature films and television movies. The Berlin International Film Festival (german: Internationale Filmfestspiele Berlin), usually called the Berlinale (), is a major international film festival held annually in Berlin, Germany. Founded in 1951 and originally run in June, the festival has been held every February since 1978 and is one of the " Big Three" alongside the Venice Film Festival in Italy and the Cannes Film Festival in France. Jarl Kulle
Jarl Lage Kulle (28 February 1927 – 3 October 1997) was a Swedish film and stage actor and director, and father of Maria Kulle. Kulle was born in the village of Truedstorp, outside Ekeby, Bjuv, Ekeby, Sweden, and was the son of the merchant Nils Kulle and Mia Bergendahl. Kulle was one of the leading Swedish stage actors of his generation and often appeared in TV productions, at the Royal Dramatic Theatre of Stockholm as well as in a number of films, several of these directed by Ingmar Bergman.
