''Live in Japan 2004'' is a live album by the American rock band Incubus (band), Incubus, released in 2004. The album's proceeds go to the band's charitable arm, the Make Yourself Foundation. Incubus (band)
Incubus is an American Rock music, rock band from Calabasas, California. The band was formed in 1991 by vocalist Brandon Boyd, lead guitarist Mike Einziger, and drummer José Pasillas while enrolled in Calabasas High School and later expanded to include bassist Alex Katunich, Alex "Dirk Lance" Katunich, and Gavin Koppell, Gavin "DJ Lyfe" Koppell; both of whom were replaced by bassist Ben Kenney and Chris Kilmore, DJ Kilmore, respectively. Incubus has attained commercial success, reaching multi-platinum sales, as well as releasing several successful singles (music), singles. After their first two albums, ''Fungus Amongus'' (1995) and ''S.C.I.E.N.C.E.'' Brandon Boyd
Brandon Charles Boyd (born February 15, 1976) is an American singer, songwriter, musician, author and visual artist. He is best known as the lead vocalist of the American rock band Incubus, with whom he has recorded eight studio albums. In addition to his work with Incubus, Boyd has released two solo albums - '' The Wild Trapeze'' (2010) and ''Echoes & Cocoons'' (2022) - and has collaborated with producer Brenden O'Brien under the name Sons of the Sea. Early life Boyd graduated from Calabasas High School in 1994 and attended Moorpark College for two years before committing to Incubus. Brandon grew up in Calabasas, California with Ricky Taylor who inspired him to write music. José Pasillas
José Antonio Pasillas II (born April 26, 1976) is an American musician best known as the drummer and co-founder of alternative rock band Incubus. Biography José Pasillas is of Mexican descent. He grew up in Calabasas, California. He began playing drums in 1990. Later in 1991, José and friends Brandon Boyd, Mike Einziger, and Alex Katunich (aka Dirk Lance; replaced by Ben Kenney in 2003) began Incubus in high school in the San Fernando Valley outpost of Calabasas. He endorses DW drums and Sabian cymbals. José has mentioned he has never had any formal training for the drums, which he says has positives and negatives. Some of his influences include Chad Sexton of 311, Stewart Copeland of The Police, and Tim Alexander of Primus. Marxophone
The Marxophone is a fretless zither played via a system of metal hammers. It features two octaves of double melody strings in the key of C major ( middle C to C''), and four sets of chord strings (C major, G major, F major, and D7). Sounding somewhat like a mandolin, the Marxophone's timbre is also reminiscent of various types of hammered dulcimers. The player typically strums the chords with the left hand. The right hand plays the melody strings by depressing spring steel strips that hold small lead hammers over the strings. A brief stab on a metal strip bounces the hammer off a string pair to produce a single note. Holding the strip down makes the hammer bounce on the double strings, which produces a mandolin-like tremolo. Mellotron
The Mellotron is an electro-mechanical musical instrument developed in Birmingham, England, in 1963. It is played by pressing its keys, each of which pushes a length of magnetic tape against a capstan, which pulls it across a playback head. As the key is released, the tape is retracted by a spring to its initial position. Different portions of the tape can be played to access different sounds. The Mellotron evolved from the similar Chamberlin, but could be mass-produced more efficiently. The first models were designed for the home and contained a variety of sounds, including automatic accompaniments. Bandleader Eric Robinson and television personality David Nixon helped promote the first instruments, and celebrities such as Princess Margaret were early adopters. Turntables
A phonograph, in its later forms also called a gramophone (as a trademark since 1887, as a generic name in the UK since 1910) or since the 1940s called a record player, or more recently a turntable, is a device for the mechanical and analogue recording and reproduction of sound. Benjamin Lee Kenney Sr. (born March 12, 1977) is an American musician from Brielle, New Jersey. He is the current bass guitarist for the band Incubus (since 2003) and had previously played in the Roots as a guitarist. He also records as a solo artist, usually recording every instrument and singing all vocals on his records. Career Kenney played guitar for the hip-hop group the Roots before he joined Incubus in 2003 after the departure of the bass guitarist and founding member Alex Katunich (aka Dirk Lance). He had previously played with Incubus members Mike Einziger and Jose Pasillas in Time Lapse Consortium. Michael Aaron Einziger (born June 21, 1976) is an American musician, songwriter and producer. He is best known for being co-founder and guitarist of the rock band Incubus, and has also co-written, produced and collaborated with a wide array of artists including Pharrell Williams, Hans Zimmer, Skrillex, Tyler the Creator, Avicii, Damian Marley, Jason Schwartzman (Coconut Records) and Steve Martin among many others.
