21st Century Schizoid Band
21st Century Schizoid Band were a King Crimson alumnus group formed in 2002. The name derives from the famous song "21st Century Schizoid Man" from the first King Crimson album, ''In the Court of the Crimson King''. The initial band featured Mel Collins on saxophones, flute and keyboards, Michael Giles on drums, Peter Giles (musician), Peter Giles on bass, Ian McDonald (musician), Ian McDonald on alto saxophone, flute and keyboards, and Jakko Jakszyk on guitar and vocals. All but Jakszyk had previously been members of King Crimson in its early years. Ian Wallace (drummer), Ian Wallace, another former Crimson member from that period, replaced Michael Giles in early 2003 after the band's Japanese tour. Ian Wallace (musician)
Ian Russell Wallace (29 September 1946 – 22 February 2007) was an English rock and jazz music, jazz drummer, most visibly as a member of progressive rock band King Crimson, as a member of David Lindley (musician), David Lindley's El Rayo-X and as Don Henley's drummer. Early years Wallace was born in Bury, Greater Manchester, Bury and educated at Bury Grammar School. He formed his first band, The Jaguars, at school, before going on to join The Warriors (British band), The Warriors with Jon Anderson in his pre-Yes (band), Yes days. (Wallace later played with Yes once in November 1968 during Bill Bruford's hiatus from the band). From The Warriors, Wallace went on to join Big Sound. In the 1960s, Big Sound worked in Denmark, Norway and Sweden as a backing band of Danish rock musician Nalle. Michael Giles
Michael Rex Giles (born 1 March 1942) is an English drummer, percussionist, and vocalist, best known as one of the co-founders of King Crimson in 1969. Prior to the formation of King Crimson, he was part of the eccentric pop trio Giles, Giles and Fripp along with his brother, bassist Peter, and guitarist Robert Fripp. They were active between 1967–1968. Life and career Giles was born in Waterlooville, Hampshire, England. His drumming technique is complex and polyrhythmic, based primarily on the jazz tradition, but also on the then developing progressive rock tradition. His playing dictated much of the compositional structure of the first King Crimson album, ''In the Court of the Crimson King''. Giles's compositional ear is evidenced by his ability to weave seamless tempo changes and subtle melodic deviations into his drumming throughout the album. Robert Fripp (born 16 May 1946) is a British musician, songwriter, record producer, and author, best known as the guitarist, founder and longest-lasting member of the progressive rock band King Crimson. Gregory Stuart Lake (10 November 1947 – 7 December 2016) was an English musician, singer, and songwriter. He gained prominence as a founding member of the progressive rock bands King Crimson and Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP). Born and brought up in Dorset, Lake began to play the guitar at the age of 12 and wrote his first song, " Lucky Man", at the same age. He became a full-time musician at 17, playing in several rock bands until his friend and fellow Dorset guitarist Robert Fripp invited him to join King Crimson as lead singer and bassist. Pete Sinfield
Peter John Sinfield (born 27 December 1943) is an English poet and songwriter. He is best known as the co-founder and former lyricist of King Crimson, whose debut album '' In the Court of the Crimson King'' is considered one of the first and most influential progressive rock albums ever released. Sinfield's lyrics are known for their surreal imagery, often involving common fantasy concepts, nature, or the sea. They often also deal with emotional concepts and, sometimes, storyline concepts. Melvyn Desmond Collins (born 5 September 1947, Isle of Man) is a British saxophonist, flautist and session musician. Collins has played in several progressive rock groups, having been a member of King Crimson on two occasions (the first from 1970 to 1972 and the second from 2013 to the present day) and having played with Camel, the Alan Parsons Project, Roger Waters and Chris Squire. Peter Anthony Giles (born 17 June 1944 in Havant, Hampshire, England) is a British singer and bassist. He is the brother of drummer Michael Giles. Biography Early career Giles began his career in 1960 with the band Johnny King and The Raiders', composed of Johnny King (vocals), Graham "Wes" Douglas (guitar), Roger Collins (guitar), Giles (bass), and brother Michael (drums). The group never recorded any singles. After Roger Collins left the group, the group disbanded shortly thereafter. Michael "Jakko" Jakszyk (born Michael Lee Curran, 8 June 1958) is an English musician, record producer, and actor. He has released several solo albums as a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist and has been the lead singer for King Crimson since 2013. His work has been variously credited to "Jakko", "Jakko Jakszyk", and "Jakko M. Jakszyk". Before joining King Crimson, he led bands for over thirty years, including 64 Spoons, Dizrhythmia, 21st Century Schizoid Band, Jakszyk Fripp Collins, and Rapid Eye Movement. Ian McDonald (musician)
Ian Richard McDonald (25 June 1946 – 9 February 2022) was an English multi-instrumentalist, best known as a founding member of the progressive rock band King Crimson in 1968, as well as the hard rock band Foreigner (band), Foreigner in 1976. McDonald began his music career as an army musician, where he learned the clarinet and taught himself music theory. He also taught himself to play flute, saxophone, guitar and piano. He co-founded King Crimson and appeared on their 1969 debut album ''In the Court of the Crimson King'', playing Mellotron, keyboards and woodwinds. In the mid-1970s, he moved to New York City where he co-founded Foreigner, appearing on the group's first three albums.
