Live In Barcelona (Bruce Springsteen Video)
''Live In Barcelona'' is a full concert video DVD of a performance by Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band of their Rising Tour performance of October 16, 2002 at Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The first half of the show was broadcast live at the time across Europe on MTV Europe and VH1 UK; the broadcast concluded with Springsteen's biggest hit, " Dancing in the Dark", unusually placed in the middle of the regular set for that reason. A tape of the broadcast was later aired by CBS in the United States on February 28, 2003 as well. The performance of "Waitin' on a Sunny Day" was released as a music video to promote the single. Released on November 18, 2003 after the tour's conclusion and now incorporating the complete Barcelona performance, this DVD was the first time that an entire Springsteen concert was documented with an official release in either audio or video. Unlike the prior tour's concert video '' Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band: Live in N ...

Jon Landau
Jon Landau (born May 14, 1947) is an American music critic, manager, and record producer. He has worked with Bruce Springsteen in all three capacities. He is the head of the nominating committee for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and received that institution's Ahmet Ertegun Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2020. Early life Born in New York City, Landau grew up in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn and then in Queens before his family moved to the Boston suburb of Lexington, Massachusetts when he was 12. He attended Lexington High School and then Brandeis University, where he earned a degree in history with honors. Aligning himself with the growing underground culture of late-1960s Boston, Landau carved out a niche while writing for the music magazine ''Crawdaddy''. A failed performer yet a passionate, devoted fan, Landau championed the straightforward rock and roll that he loved, and wrote scathing reviews of what he saw as the overblown, pretentious San Francisco scene. Waitin' On A Sunny Day
"Waitin' on a Sunny Day" is a song by Bruce Springsteen that was first released in a recording with the E Street Band on his 2002 album '' The Rising''. Although the song was not released as a single in the United States, it was released as a single in Europe, and was a hit in Sweden. History and themes While many songs on ''The Rising'' were written in response to the September 11, 2001 attacks, "Waitin' on a Sunny Day" was written earlier. Springsteen wrote and recorded the song in 1998 or 1999, but that recording has not been released. On June 17, 1999, during the Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band Reunion Tour, Springsteen and the band played the song for a soundcheck, but did not play it during any of the actual shows on the tour. The song was finally recorded again in Atlanta during the ''Rising'' sessions and was released on that album. The song combines a simple, bouncy melody and arrangement powered by drums, acoustic guitars and Soozie Tyrell's violin with a lyr ...

My City Of Ruins
"My City of Ruins" is a popular 2000s song written and performed by Bruce Springsteen and included on his 2002 album '' The Rising''. History The song was written in November 2000, for an Asbury Park, New Jersey Christmas show benefit to help promote the revitalization of the city. Once a popular resort destination in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Asbury Park had succumbed to significant amounts of blight for a variety of reasons, including the ill-effects of the Great Depression, the opening of the Garden State Parkway, and race riots. The song first starts describing the current state of Asbury Park, the deterioration, and the absence of people in the area. Throughout the song, Springsteen continues to describe the city using images such as men loitering on a street corner and buildings with boarded-up windows: The song ends, however, on a hopeful and optimistic note by powerfully imploring the city to "rise up" from the decay: "My City of Ruins" was first ...

Born To Run (Bruce Springsteen Song)
"Born to Run" is a song by American singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen, and the title song of his album ''Born to Run''. Upon its release, music critic Robert Christgau took note of its wall of sound influence and called it "the fulfillment of everything 'Be My Baby' was about and lots more". "Born to Run" was Springsteen's first worldwide single release, although it achieved little initial success outside of the United States. Within the U.S. it received extensive airplay on progressive or album-oriented rock radio stations. The single was also Springsteen’s first top 40 hit on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, peaking at #23. The song ranked number 21 on the ''Rolling Stone'' list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, the highest entry for a song by Springsteen, and is included in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. Composition In late 1973, on the road in Tennessee, Springsteen awoke with the title "Born to Run", which he wrote down. Accordi ...

Night (Bruce Springsteen Song)
"Night" is a song by Bruce Springsteen which first appeared on the ''Born to Run'' album in 1975. Although this is one of the lesser known songs from ''Born to Run'', "Night" has become somewhat of a stage favorite for the E Street Band. The song was not immediately played during the 1975 portions of the Born to Run Tour, but later became a frequent set-opener, especially during the 1976 and 1977 legs. It was still sometimes being used as an opening song decades later during the 2007–2008 Magic Tour. The mood of the music is mostly exciting as are the lyrics which have a romantic quality as well. The music is propelled by Gary Tallent's bass. It is similar to the album's famous title track in that both songs deal with men and their fast cars. The lyrics mostly describe the central character as a blue collar worker who, after working a full day, runs off into the night to go drag racing and search for the love of a woman. For the protagonist, the only freedom and joy come ...

Incident On 57th Street
"Incident on 57th Street" is a song written by Bruce Springsteen that was first released on his 1973 album ''The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle''. It has been described by critics as a key development in Springsteen's songwriting career and regarded by fans as one of his greatest songs. Writing and recording "Incident on 57th Street" was the last song Springsteen recorded for ''The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle''. As with the rest of the album, it was recorded at 914 Sound Studios in Blauvelt, New York. Springsteen had been working on it under the working title "Puerto Rican Jane." It was one of the first songs on which Springsteen felt like an "observer," writing whatever came out of him rather than self-consciously trying to write something specific. On the album, the piano solo at the end of the song segues directly into the guitar opening of the following song, "Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)." Lyrics and music According to Springsteen, the theme of " ...

Spirit In The Night
"Spirit in the Night" is a song written and originally recorded by American singer/songwriter Bruce Springsteen for his debut album ''Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.'' (1973). It was also the second single released from the album. A cover version performed by Manfred Mann's Earth Band, was released on the album '' Nightingales and Bombers'' and as a Top 40 single. Original version The original version of "Spirit in the Night" was released on Bruce Springsteen's debut album, ''Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.'' It was one of the last songs to be written and recorded. Springsteen and producer Mike Appel submitted the finished album to Columbia Records on August 10, 1972, but Clive Davis, president of the record label, was concerned that none of the tracks had the commercial appeal required to be released as a single. Springsteen quickly wrote, and on September 11 recorded, two additional songs, "Spirit in the Night" and "Blinded by the Light". Since recording sessions had been co ...

She's The One (Bruce Springsteen Song)
"She's the One" is a song by Bruce Springsteen. Frequently featured in Springsteen and E Street Band concert performances, it first appeared on the ''Born to Run'' album in 1975. It was also released as the B-side to Springsteen's "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out" single. Music and lyrics "She's the One" was one of the songs that Springsteen wrote before beginning to record the ''Born to Run'' album, along with "Born to Run", " Thunder Road" and " Jungleland", although originally he was not sure whether to include it on the album. Several versions of the song were recorded for ''Born to Run'' between April and June 1975, and the June 1975 version recorded at 914 Sound Studios in Blauvelt, New York is the one that was officially released. The topic of the song is the rock staple of an intensely attractive, but cold-hearted woman, who causes massive emotional turmoil for her lover. Although the singer knows the woman is a liar, he wants to believe her. The lyrics reflect both the j ...

Badlands (Bruce Springsteen Song)
"Badlands" is the lead track on Bruce Springsteen's fourth studio album '' Darkness on the Edge of Town'', and its second single. Origins According to Springsteen, he came up with the title "Badlands" before he started writing the song. He felt it was a "great title" but that it would be easy to blow it by not writing a worthy song for it. The riff is based on The Animals' "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood". According to the editors of ''Rolling Stone'', the song "tapped into the ferocity of the punk singles he'd been listening to at the time". Themes The song tells the story of a man down on his luck and angry at the world, who wants a better lot in life. On March 15, 2012, in a keynote speech to an audience at the South by Southwest music festival, Springsteen discussed the Animals' influence on his music at length, praising their harsh, propulsive sound and lyrical content. Saying that '' Darkness on the Edge of Town'' was "filled with Animals", Springsteen played the open ...

Prove It All Night
"Prove It All Night" is the penultimate song on Bruce Springsteen's fourth studio album ''Darkness on the Edge of Town'', and the first single released from it. Content In keeping with a storied tradition of rock songs, these lyrics equate love with the surrendering of a woman's virtue. The protagonist promises to prove his love all night, a vow that can be seen as either opportunistic or youthfully optimistic, depending on one's point of view. Thus it can be experienced as either humorous or sincere. Lyrically the song is similar to other Springsteen numbers such as " Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)" and " Thunder Road". The entire song contains a sense of optimism that the two individuals' quest for love will someday be realized but, at the same time, it seems that the world is closing in on them in that the characters' chances of falling in love are growing more limited as time passes. The song begins with a piano intro played by Roy Bittan. The rhythm guitar work is quite faint, ...
