Live At The Wireless
''Live at the Wireless'' is a radio show, and now a long-standing tradition, of Triple J, an Australian radio station. Live music is one of the central philosophies of the station. The live broadcasts take a number of forms. Some broadcasts are from open-air concerts and festivals, or smaller pub gigs around the country. Many are bands that have been invited into the Triple J studios to play a live set of tracks, usually acoustic. Occasionally, Triple J will give away tickets to listeners, to allow them to be a part of a special live performance in a secret location. All of the live broadcasts are recorded, and the station has released several double-CD compilations of live tracks. Many complete live sets are traded by music fans worldwide over the internet. Triple J
Triple J (stylised in all lowercase) is a government-funded, national Australian Radio in Australia, radio station intended to appeal to listeners of alternative music, which began broadcasting in January 1975. The station also places a greater emphasis on broadcasting music of Australia, Australian content compared to commercial stations. Triple J is a division of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. History 1970s: Launch and early years 2JJ commenced broadcasting at 11:00 am, Sunday 19 January 1975, at 1540 Hertz, kHz (which switched to 1539Hertz, kHz in 1978) on the AM radio, AM band. Killing Time (Australian Band)
Mantissa were an Australian hard rock band which formed as Killing Time in 1989. Killing Time included Nina Grant on bass guitar and vocals, Chris Paine on guitar, and Adam Pringle on lead vocals. In February 1991 they issued an extended play, ''Ruby's Mind'', which reached the Top 100 on the ARIA Singles Chart. Their ''Dream Alone'' (March 1992) extended play, peaked in the Top 30. Killing Time supported national tours by Jane's Addiction, Mudhoney, Scatterbrain and Baby Animals. In August 1992 Killing Time changed their name to Mantissa and followed with their debut album, ''Mossy God'', in October on Red Eye Records / Polydor Records, which appeared in the Top 50 ARIA Albums Chart. Tomorrow Wendy (song)
"Tomorrow Wendy" is a song written and originally recorded by American singer-songwriter Andy Prieboy. Released in 1990 as the lead single from his first solo album '' ...Upon My Wicked Son'', Prieboy recorded the song as a duet with Johnette Napolitano. In 1990, Napolitano would also record the song with her band Concrete Blonde for their third studio album ''Bloodletting''. Writing "Tomorrow Wendy" was inspired by the suicide of a woman who Prieboy had known from a young age when they were both growing up in East Chicago, Indiana. Wendy later turned to prostitution and drugs, and when she was diagnosed with HIV, she decided to commit suicide by taking a heroin overdose rather than go on to die of an AIDS-related disease. Andy Prieboy
Andy Prieboy (born April 17, 1955) is an American musician, songwriter, and author. He was lead singer of the band Wall of Voodoo from 1983 to 1988. He went on to record solo albums, musicals and wrote a novel. Life and career Prieboy was born in Los Angeles and raised in East Chicago, Indiana. Early in his career, he was in the San Francisco art band Eye Protection, which had one track on the compilation ''Rising Stars of San Francisco'': "Take Her Where The Boys Are". They also recorded a 7-inch single called "Elroy Jetson" with a b-side of "Go Go Girl" on Eleph Records. In 1983, he replaced Stan Ridgway as lead vocalist of Wall of Voodoo. ''Seven Days in Sammystown'' was the first Wall of Voodoo album to feature Prieboy, which was followed by ''Happy Planet'', and finally ''The Ugly Americans in Australia'' (a live album recorded to fulfill their recording obligations to IRS Records). Falling Joys
Falling Joys are an Australian alternative rock band formed in Canberra in 1985. The original line-up included Suzie Higgie on lead vocals and guitar and Stuart G. Robertson on bass guitar. By the end of 1988 Higgie and Robertson, now on guitar, were joined by Pat Hayes on bass guitar and vocals, and Pete Velzen on drums. They have released three albums, ''Wish List'' (1990), ''Psychohum'' (1992) and ''Aerial'' (1993). Both the latter two albums reached the ARIA Albums Chart Top 50. They disbanded in 1995 but reunited in 2011 and, again, in July 2016. Beasts Of Bourbon
Beasts of Bourbon were an Australian blues rock band formed in August 1983, with James Baker on drums (ex-Hoodoo Gurus, The Scientists), Spencer P. Jones on guitar (The Johnnys), Tex Perkins on vocals (Dum Dums), Kim Salmon on guitar and Boris Sujdovic on bass guitar (both ex-The Scientists). Except for mainstays Jones and Perkins, the line-up changed over time as the group splintered and reformed several times. Their debut album, ''The Axeman's Jazz'' was released in July 1984. Pop Will Eat Itself are an English alternative rock band formed in 1986 in Stourbridge in the West Midlands of England with members from Birmingham, Coventry and the Black Country. Initially known as a grebo act, they changed style to incorporate sample-driven indie and industrial rock. Nicholas Paul Barker is an Australian singer-songwriter and guitarist who formed a rock, power pop band, Nick Barker & the Reptiles, in March 1988. Their cover version of Cockney Rebel's "Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)" reached the top 30 on the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Singles Chart in November 1989. "Falling to Pieces" is the third single on Faith No More's first studio album with Mike Patton on vocals, ''The Real Thing''. The song was released as a single on July 2, 1990. The song peaked at number 92 on the '' Billboard'' Hot 100 and number 40 on the ''Billboard'' Album Rock Tracks chart. The song has rarely been performed live due to the band's disdain for it. Live performances Despite its success, the song did not go on to be a live staple, appearing very rarely in concerts after their appearance at the 1993 Phoenix Festival, where Billy Gould announced, "This is the last time we'll ever play this song again" right before the song. Faith No More is an American rock band from San Francisco, California, formed in 1979. Before settling on the current name in July 1983, the band performed under the names Sharp Young Men and later Faith No Man. Concrete Blonde was an American alternative rock band from Hollywood, California. They were initially active from 1982 to 1995, and reunited twice: first from 2001 to 2004, and again from 2010 to 2012. Louis Rohan Tillett (13 March 1959 – 6 August 2023) was an Australian rock music singer-songwriter, keyboardist and saxophonist. Tillett was the front man in Australian bands The Wet Taxis, Paris Green and The Aspersion Caste. He also worked as a backing musician with Catfish, Laughing Clowns, New Christs and Tex Perkins.
