BBC Light Programme
The BBC Light Programme was a national radio station which broadcast chiefly mainstream light entertainment and light music from 1945 until 1967, when it was replaced by BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 1. It opened on 29 July 1945, taking over the long wave frequency which had earlier been used – prior to the outbreak of the Second World War on 1 September 1939 – by the National Programme. The service was intended as a domestic replacement for the wartime General Forces Programme which had gained many civilian listeners in Britain as well as members of the British Armed Forces. The Moody Blues
The Moody Blues were an English rock music, rock band formed in Birmingham in 1964, initially consisting of keyboardist Mike Pinder, multi-instrumentalist Ray Thomas, guitarist Denny Laine, drummer Graeme Edge and bassist Clint Warwick. The group came to prominence playing rhythm and blues. They made some changes in musicians but settled on a line-up of Pinder, Thomas, Edge, guitarist Justin Hayward and bassist John Lodge (musician), John Lodge, who stayed together for most of the band's "classic era" into the early 1970s. Edge was the group’s sole continuous member throughout their entire history. Their second album, ''Days of Future Passed'', which was released in 1967, was a fusion of rock with classical music which established the band as pioneers in the development of art rock and progressive rock. ''At the BBC'' is a compilation album by English musician and singer-songwriter Joe Jackson, released by Spectrum Music on 26 January 2009. Content ''At the BBC'' contains 32 tracks across two discs, all of which were performed for the BBC by Jackson and his band between 1979 and 1983. The first four tracks of disc one were recorded at Maida Vale Studios on 21 February 1979 and broadcast on John Peel's BBC Radio 1 show on 26 February 1979. The remaining eleven tracks on the disc were recorded at London's Hammersmith Odeon on 15 August 1982 and broadcast on Radio 1 on 2 October 1982 as part of their "In Concert" series. Disc two's first ten tracks were recorded at the Hatfield Polytechnic on 29 November 1979 and broadcast on BBC TV series ''Rock Goes to College'' on 14 January 1980. Mighty Mighty
Mighty Mighty are a British indie band formed in Birmingham, England, in the mid-1980s. History Showing influences from Postcard Records bands such as Orange Juice, they came to prominence when featured on the ''NMEs ''C86'' compilation, at around the same time that they released their debut single "Everybody Knows the Monkey". This was soon followed by a 12" single, "Is There Anyone Out There?", before the band signed to Chapter 22 Records, releasing a string of well-received singles and the album ''Sharks'' in 1988. With their brand of indie pop giving way to American influenced rock and shoegazing, they split in 1988. Continuing interest in the band saw the reissue of ''Sharks'' in 2000, the release of a compilation album of BBC session tracks in 2001, and two compilations of singles and unreleased tracks in 2000 and 2001. ''Bowie at the Beeb'' is a compilation album by English singer-songwriter David Bowie, first released in 2000. Originally, it came in a three-CD set, the third, bonus CD being a live recording made on at the Portland BBC Radio Theatre. Later editions contain only the first two CDs. The bonus disc was also released as a separate single CD entitled ''BBC Radio Theatre, London, June 27, 2000''. Releases The first pressing mistakenly included the second (disc 2, track 13) version of the song " Ziggy Stardust" twice on disc two, missing the first (disc 2, track 5) version. EMI declined to issue corrected replacement discs to customers, instead mailing out one-song CDs of the first version. This compilation also features a previously unreleased song, "Looking for a Friend" (disc 1, track 15), which John Peel said would be released as a single by Arnold Corns. It was released by Hollywood Records in 1995 in the United States and Canada under the title ''At the BBC'' on CD and as limited edition picture disc vinyl. The album comprises tracks recorded in two sessions for the BBC Radio 1 ''Sound of the 70s'' programme. The first four tracks were recorded on 5 February 1973; the rest were recorded on 3 December 1973. "The Universal" is a song by English alternative rock band Blur and is featured on their fourth studio album, '' The Great Escape'' (1995). It was released on 13 November 1995 as the second single from that album, charting at number five on the UK Singles Chart and number 12 in both Iceland and Ireland. In keeping with the song's science fiction theme, the single's cover art is an allusion to the opening shot of '' 2001: A Space Odyssey'', and the music video is a tribute to the movie '' A Clockwork Orange'', with the band dressed up in costumes similar to Alex and his droogs. Maria Luisa McKee (born August 17, 1964) is an American singer-songwriter. She is best known for her work with Lone Justice, her 1990 song " Show Me Heaven", and her song "If Love Is a Red Dress (Hang Me in Rags)" from the film ''Pulp Fiction''. She is the half-sister of Bryan MacLean, who was best known as a guitarist and vocalist in the band Love. Early life Maria McKee was born in Los Angeles in 1964. She grew up in a bohemian family and is the half-sister of Bryan MacLean, the former guitarist of the band Love (he died in 1998 at age 51). Music McKee was a founding member of the cowpunk and proto Americana band Lone Justice, in 1982, with whom she released two albums. Several compilations of both previously released and unreleased material and a BBC Live in Concert album have been released since the group disbanded in 1987.
