Liv Inger Somby
Liv Inger Somby (born 1962) is a Sámi educator, writer, and journalist. She specializes in indigenous journalism which she teaches at the Sámi University of Applied Sciences in Kautokeino in the north of Norway. Born in the village of Guohppenjavvi, Karigasniemi, Utsjoki on the Finnish side of the Sápmi border, she now lives in Kautokeino, Norway. She is one of only three people who have earned a master's degree in indigenous journalism in Norway. She has since worked in Norway, Sweden and Finland, both as a freelance and for the Swedish and Norwegian national broadcasting corporations. As a journalist, Somby has reported on Sámi news and features for over 30 years. A member of Norway's Truth and Reconciliation Commission, she has also worked in Sweden, Finland and Russia. She heads the Sámi Broadcasting Council (or Sámi Programme Council) at NRK Sápmi. Sámi University Of Applied Sciences
Sámi University of Applied Sciences ( se, Sámi allaskuvla, no, Samisk høgskole) is a university that is located in the village of Kautokeino in Kautokeino Municipality in Finnmark county, Norway. It was established in 1989 and has about 200 students and 110 faculty, technical and administrative staff. It is one of 25 Norwegian state university colleges. Since 2009 it has been located at the campus complex of Diehtosiida. Sámi University of Applied Sciences has a national responsibility for Sámi higher education, including education within teaching and journalism. The college attempts to develop its syllabi on the basis of Sámi needs, and attempts to develop Sámi as an academic language. The college has students from all four countries covered by Sápmi. Kautokeino
Kautokeino ( no, Kautokeino; se, Guovdageaidnu ; fkv, Koutokeino; fi, Koutokeino) is a municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Guovdageaidnu/Kautokeino. Other villages include Láhpoluoppal and Máze. The municipality is the largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Kautokeino is the 235th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 2,877. NRK Sápmi
NRK Sápmi (previously NRK Sámi Radio) is a unit of the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) that streams news and other programs in the Sami language for broadcast to the Sami people of Norway via radio, television, and internet. Regular radio news programs in Sami began in 1946, presented from Tromsø by the teacher Kathrine Johnsen (1917–2002), remembered today as "Sami Radio's Mother". In 1976, NRK Sámi Radio moved to Kárášjohka (Karasjok), and in 1984 to its current headquarters (also in Kárášjohka). NRK Sápmi has about 17 journalists based in Deatnu (Tana), Guovdageaidnu (Kautokeino), Olmmaivaggi in Gáivuotna, Tromsø, Skånland, Tysfjord, Snåsa, and Oslo.
