Liu Lei
Liu Lei (; born February 1957) is a general of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA). He has been Political Commissar of the PLA Ground Force since December 2015, and formerly served as Political Commissar of the Lanzhou Military Region and the Xinjiang Military District. Biography Liu Lei was born in February 1957 in Liaocheng, Shandong province. He joined the PLA in 1973 at age 16. In the 1990s, he graduated from the joint combat commander training program of the PLA National Defence University. He also studied at the graduate school of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and holds a doctoral degree. 2013 Tiananmen Square Attack
On 28 October 2013, a car ran over pedestrians and crashed in Tiananmen Square, Beijing, China, in a terrorist suicide attack. Five people died in the incident; three inside the vehicle and two others nearby. Police identified the driver as Usmen Hasan and the two passengers as his wife, Gulkiz Gini, and his mother, Kuwanhan Reyim. An additional 38 people were injured. Chinese police described it as a "major incident" and as the first terrorist attack in Beijing's recent history. The East Turkestan Islamic Movement, or Turkistan Islamic Party, claimed responsibility and warned of future attacks. Li Wei (born 1960)
Li Wei (; born September 1960) is a general ('' Shangjiang'') of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China and the current political commissar of People's Liberation Army Strategic Support Force. He was promoted to the rank of major general ('' shaojiang'') in July 2008, lieutenant general ('' zhongjiang'') in July 2016, and general (''Shangjiang'') in December 2020. Du Jincai
Du Jincai (; born October 1952) is a retired General officer, general (''Jiang (rank), shangjiang'') of the People's Liberation Army who served as Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Central Military Commission. He was also Deputy Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), and a member of the 18th Standing Committee of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, CCDI Standing Committee. People's Liberation Army Ground Force
The People's Liberation Army Ground Force (PLAGF; ) is the land-based service branch of the People's Liberation Army and the largest and oldest branch of the entire Chinese armed forces. The PLAGF can trace its lineage from 1927 as the Chinese Red Army; however, it was not officially established until 1948. History In February 1949, the existing large number of armies and divisions were regularised into up to seventy armies of three divisions each. While some, such as the 1st Army, survived for over fifty years, a number were quickly amalgamated and disestablished in the early 1950s. PLA Navy
The People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN; ), also known as the People's Navy, Chinese Navy, or PLA Navy, is the maritime service branch of the People's Liberation Army. The PLAN traces its lineage to naval units fighting during the Chinese Civil War and was established on 23 April 1949. Members of the standing committees of the Chinese Communist Party provincial-level committees, commonly referred to as ''Shengwei Changwei'' (), make up the top ranks of the provincial-level organizations of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Peng Yong
Peng Yong (; born January 1954) is a retired lieutenant general (''zhong jiang'') in the Chinese People's Liberation Army who served as commander of the Xinjiang Military District. Originally from Lulong County, Hebei, Peng joined the military in 1970. He served in the 21st Group Army, then the 47th Group Army, before joining the Xinjiang Military District as its commander. He was promoted to lieutenant general in November 2012. He also served on the Xinjiang Autonomous Regional Standing Committee of the Communist Party, but was removed from the position as a result of the 2013 Tiananmen Square attack, thought to be perpetrated by Uyghurs from Xinjiang.
