Littleton Baronets
Three baronetcies have been created in the Baronetage of England for members of the Littleton or Lyttelton family. All three lines are descended from Thomas de Littleton, a noted 15th-century jurist. Despite differences in the spelling of the title, the names of all three lines were spelt in many varied ways in the early modern period, without distinction between the different branches of the family. This can be confusing, as the range of forenames in use was very limited. Origins The Littleton family had its origins in South Lyttleton, near Evesham, Worcestershire. Timothy Littleton
Sir Timothy Littleton ( c 1608 – 2 April 1679 ) was an English judge and politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1660 and 1670. Littleton was the son of Sir Edward Littleton of Henley Shropshire and his wife Mary Walter, daughter of Edward Walter of Ludlow. His father was chief justice of North Wales. Littleton became a lawyer and was serjeant-at-law. In 1660, Littleton was elected member of parliament for Ludlow in the Convention Parliament. He was re-elected MP for Ludlow in 1661 in the Cavalier Parliament and sat until 1670 when he became Baron of the Exchequer. After the Great Fire of London in 1666, Littleton was a judge at the Fire Court set up under the Fire of London Disputes Act 1666 to hear cases relating to property destroyed in the fire. The artist John Michael Wright was commissioned to paint portraits of all 22 judges that had sat in the Fire Court. He was knighted at Whitehall on 29 June 1671. Littleton Waller Tazewell (December 17, 1774May 6, 1860) was a Virginia lawyer, plantation owner and politician who served as U.S. Representative, United States Senate, U.S. Senator and the List of Governors of Virginia, 26th Governor of Virginia, as well as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates. Early and family life Tazewell, son of Henry Tazewell (1753-1799), and his wife Dorothy Elizabeth Waller (1754–77) was born in Williamsburg, Virginia, Williamsburg in the Colony of Virginia shortly before Christmas, 1774. Littleton Tazewell "Tony" Waller (September 26, 1856 – July 13, 1926) was a career officer in the United States Marine Corps, who served in the Spanish–American War, the Caribbean and Asia. He was court martialled and acquitted for actions during the Philippine–American War where he led an ill-fated expedition across the island of Samar. Sir Littleton Powys FRS (1647?– 16 March 1732) was a Justice of the King's Bench. Early years He was the eldest son of Thomas Powys of Henley Hall in Shropshire, serjeant-at-law, a Bencher of Lincoln's Inn, and the representative of one branch of the ancient Welsh family of Powys, by his first wife, Mary, daughter of Sir Adam Littleton, bart. Powys was named after his maternal grandfather. Powys was baptised at Bitterley 27 April 1647. After leaving Shrewsbury School, he was admitted at St Edmund Hall, Oxford in 1663, but he does not appear to have taken any degree. In the following year, he became a student of Lincoln's Inn, and in May 1671, he was called to the Bar. Littleton Kirkpatrick (October 19, 1797 – August 15, 1859) was an American Whig Party politician, who represented in the United States House of Representatives for one term from 1853 to 1855. He was the son of Andrew Kirkpatrick and the former Jane Bayard, and grandson of John Bubenheim Bayard. Biography Kirkpatrick was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey on October 19, 1797. Sir Littleton Ernest Groom KCMG KC (22 April 18676 November 1936) was an Australian politician. He held ministerial office under four prime ministers between 1905 and 1925, and subsequently served as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1926 to 1929. Groom was the son of William Henry Groom, who had arrived in Australia as a convict but became a prominent public figure in the Colony of Queensland. Littleton Fowler (born c. 1941) was an American baseball pitcher who is most notable for winning the 1961 College World Series Most Outstanding Player award while a sophomore at Oklahoma State University. Claire Littleton is a fictional character played by Emilie de Ravin on the ABC drama television series ''Lost'', which chronicles the lives of the survivors of a plane crash in the South Pacific.
