Little Sinner
''Little Sinner'' is a 1935 ''Our Gang'' short comedy film directed by Gus Meins. It was the 139th ''Our Gang'' short to be released, and the first appearance of two-year old Porky. Plot Anxious to go fishing, Spanky skips out of Sunday school, despite the admonitions of his pals Alfalfa, Mildred, Sidney, and Marianne that "Something's going to happen to you." Actually, everything happens to Spanky and his kid brother (Eugene "Porky" Lee) in the course of the morning. Chased out of a private estate by cantankerous caretaker, the two boys wander into a dark, mysterious woods just as an eclipse occurs and at the same time a large group of black worshippers are holding a mass baptism ceremony. Some view the baptism and background singing of the Negro spiritual "I Am Leaning on The Lord", which contains the words: "Why don't you come out of the wilderness" as a racist stereotype. Gus Meins
Gus Meins (March 6, 1893 – August 1, 1940), born Gustave Peter Ludwig Luley, was an American film director. He was born in Frankfurt, Germany. Career Meins started out in the 'teens as a cartoonist for the Los Angeles Evening Herald before becoming a comedy writer for Fox in 1919. In the 1920s, Meins directed a number of silent short subjects film series for Universal Pictures, including the '' Buster Brown'' comedies. He is best known as senior director of Hal Roach's ''Our Gang'' comedies from 1934 to 1936, and also as director of Laurel and Hardy's '' Babes in Toyland'' (1934). His assistant director was a young Gordon Douglas, who became senior director in 1936 when Meins left ''Our Gang'' for other directing jobs at Roach. George McFarland
George McFarland (October 2, 1928 – June 30, 1993) was an American actor most famous for starring as a child as Spanky in the ''Our Gang'' series of short-subject comedies of the 1930s and 1940s. The ''Our Gang'' shorts were later syndicated to television as ''The Little Rascals''. Early life McFarland was born in Dallas, Texas, on October 2, 1928, to Virginia Winifred (née Phillips) and Robert Emmett McFarland. He had three siblings: Thomas ("Tommy", who appeared in a few ''Our Gang'' episodes as "Dynamite"), Amanda, and Roderick ("Rod"). He attended Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Texas. Before joining the ''Our Gang'' comedies, "Sonny", as he was called by his family, modeled children's clothing for a Dallas department store and was also seen around the Dallas area on highway billboards and in print advertisements for Wonder Bread. Mildred Kornman
Mildred Gene Kornman (July 10, 1925 – August 19, 2022), also billed as Ricki VanDusen, was an American actress, model, businesswoman, and photographer. At the time of her death, she was one of the last living actresses of the silent era. Life and career Kornman was born in Hollywood on July 10, 1925. She was the younger sister of fellow child actress Mary Kornman. Her father was Eugene Kornman, a professional still photographer who was employed by Harold Lloyd at the time of Kornman's birth. She was named after Lloyd's wife, actress Mildred Davis. When Kornman was nine months old, she appeared with her sister Mary in ''The Fourth Alarm''. Along with Mary, she was featured in the ''Our Gang'' short films series. John Collum
John K. Collum (June 29, 1926 — August 28, 1962) was an American child actor. He appeared in many ''Our Gang'' films of the 1930s as the character Uh-Huh. Career Born in Chicago, Illinois, Collum was the son of Hal Roach's casting director, Joseph Collum. He first appeared in the 1932 short, ''A Lad an' a Lamp''. He was never a regular cast member and portrayed a character named Uh-Huh. Uh-Huh answered most of his questions with a drawn-out "Uh-huuuuuh". After 1933, Collum was used as an extra whenever a large group children was needed. He appeared in many films from 1934 to 1938. His final appearance in the Our Gang series is in the 1938 short ''Three Men in a Tub''. Death Two months past his 36th birthday, Collum died of a heart attack in Los Angeles. He is interred in the Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery in North Hollywood. He was married to Lois Rae Collum, and was the father of James, Sharon and John Collum. Clarence Wilson (actor)
Clarence Hummel Wilson (November 17, 1876 – October 5, 1941) was an American character actor. Career Wilson appeared in nearly 200 movies between 1920 and 1941, mostly in supporting roles as an old miser or grouch. He had supporting roles in films like ''The Front Page'' (1931; as Sheriff Pinky), ''Ruggles of Red Gap'' (1935) and '' You Can't Take It With You'' (1938). Wilson also played in several ''Our Gang'' comedies, most notably as Mr. Crutch in ''Shrimps for a Day'' and school board chairman Alonzo Pratt in '' Come Back, Miss Pipps'', his final film. Sidney Henry Kibrick (born July 2, 1928) is an American former child actor, most notable for appearing in the ''Our Gang'' short subjects film series, over a ten-year period from 1933 and 1943. Kibrick was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on July 2, 1928. He attended Mount Vernon Junior High.
