Little League World Series In Australia
The Australia Region of Little League Baseball is a region designated for the Little League World Series. The division was founded in 2013 when Little League officially separated Australia from the Asia-Pacific region. This followed a period of explosive growth in youth baseball in the country; the first Little League-affiliated leagues in Australia were only established in 2007, but within five years, nearly 400 Little Leagues were operating, making Australia the largest country outside North America in Little League participation. In the Little League World Series in 2013, a team from Perth, Western Australia qualified to represent Australia in its debut as a country. The team failed to win any of its three games at the LLWS. The Asia–Pacific and Middle East Region is a region that competes in the Little League World Series. Asian teams first competed in the LLWS in , when Japanese teams competed in the original Pacific Region (which included Hawaii). In , Japanese teams began competing in the newly created Far East Region. In , the Little League World Series was expanded to sixteen teams, and East Asia was split into two regions – the Pacific (consisting of teams from the Pacific Islands, Indonesia, and Oceania) and Asia (consisting of teams from mainland Asia). The Junior League World Series Australia Region is one of six International regions that currently sends teams to the World Series in Taylor, Michigan. 2022 Little League World Series
The 2022 Little League World Series was a youth baseball tournament which took place from August 17 to August 28 at the Little League Baseball, Little League headquarters complex in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Ten teams from the United States and ten teams from other countries competed in the 75th edition of the Little League World Series (LLWS). Honolulu Little League of Honolulu, Hawaii, defeated Pabao Little League of Willemstad, Curaçao, in the championship game by a 13–3 score; the game ended in four innings due to the Mercy rule#Baseball and softball, run rule. This was the first LLWS with a 20-team format. International teams returned to the tournament after the edition was held only with teams based in the United States, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
