Little League World Series (Central Region)
The Central Region was a region that competed in the Little League World Series between and . It was inaugurated as the North Region in , when the LLWS first gave out Series berths to regional winners. The region was renamed to Central in , and in was split into the Midwest and Great Lakes regions. The region produced one world champion, in , when Hamtramck, Michigan, defeated Auburn, California, 12–0, in the championship game. The region consisted of teams from the Dakotas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Ohio, and Wisconsin. In 2000, Kentucky replaced Oklahoma in the region. Little League Baseball expanded the LLWS to sixteen teams for the 2001 Little League World Series. Little League World Series
The Little League World Series is an annual baseball tournament for children—typically boys—aged 10 to 12 years old, held in the Eastern United States. Originally called the National Little League Tournament, it was later renamed for the World Series in Major League Baseball. The Series was first held in 1947 and is held every August in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania; while the postal address of the organization is in Williamsport, the Series itself is played at Howard J. Lamade Stadium and Volunteer Stadium at the Little League headquarters complex in South Williamsport. Initially, only teams from the United States competed in the Series, but it has since become a worldwide tournament. 1959 Little League World Series
The Little League World Series took place from August 25 through August 29 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The Hamtramck National Little League of Hamtramck, Michigan, defeated the West Auburn Little League of Auburn, California, in the championship game of the 13th Little League World Series. Hamtramck became the first team from the United States to win a championship since foreign teams were allowed to participate beginning in . Hamtramck was the only team from Michigan to win the Little League World Series until Taylor North won it in . This was the first year that the LLWS was played at Howard J. Lamade Stadium. Escanaba, Michigan
Escanaba ( ), commonly shortened to Esky, is a port city in Delta County in the U.S. state of Michigan, located on Little Bay de Noc in the state's Upper Peninsula. The population was 12,616 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in the Upper Peninsula after Marquette and Sault Ste. Marie. It is the seat of government of Delta County.
