Lithuania competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, from 13 to 29 August 2004. This was the nation's sixth appearance at the Summer Olympics. The National Olympic Committee of Lithuania ( lt, Lietuvos tautinis olimpinis komitetas, ''LTOK'') sent the nation's smallest delegation to the Games since the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. A total of 59 athletes, 47 men and 12 women, competed in 13 sports, including the men's basketball team as the nation's team-based sport. The Lithuanian National Olympic Committee ( lt, Lietuvos tautinis olimpinis komitetas, ''LTOK'') is the National Olympic Committee representing Lithuania. History Lithuania's national Olympic committee was established and recognized in 1924. In the same year LTOK sent its first delegation to the 1924 Summer Olympics. During Soviet Union occupation time LTOK was disestablished. At 1988 movement for freedom times there was offered to restore national committee. Andrejus Zadneprovskis
Andrejus Zadneprovskis (born August 31, 1974) is a retired Lithuanian Modern pentathlon, modern pentathlete who won the silver medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, as well as bronze medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Zadneprovskis won the gold medal in the Modern Pentathlon World Championships in the year of 2000 and 2004. He also earned the bronze medal at the Modern Pentathlon World Championships 2006 in Guatemala. In 2010 he retired from sport due to health problems. In 2009 he married modern pentathlete Laura Asadauskaitė, who won the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics. They have daughter who was born in 2010. He also has a daughter with his ex-girlfriend. The men's modern pentathlon at the 2004 Summer Olympics took place at the Olympic Modern Pentathlon Centre in Goudi Olympic Complex on 26 August. Thirty-two athletes from 20 nations participated in this event. The men's discus throw competition at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens was held at the Olympic Stadium on 21–23 August. It was originally planned to hold the discus throw at the Ancient Olympia Stadium, but it was discovered that the field was not large enough to accommodate the range of modern discus throwers, and would have posed a danger to spectators. As such, it was decided to move the discus throw and to hold the shot put at the ancient stadium, despite the fact that the shot put was not contested at the Ancient Olympic Games. Austra Skujytė (born 12 August 1979 in Biržai) is a retired Lithuanian athlete, competing in both the heptathlon and the decathlon. On 15 April 2005 in Columbia, Missouri, she broke the women's decathlon world record, with a score of 8358. She is the 2004 Olympic silver medalist and 2012 Olympic bronze medalist in the heptathlon.
