Litefeet
Litefeet, also referred to as "getting lite," is a type of street dance/vernacular dance that emerged from Harlem, New York in the early 2000s (was established in 2006) . The term comes from dancers dancing as though they have "light feet," or are weightless. The Harlem shake is commonly incorporated into the social dance Litefeet, as is the "Chicken Noodle Soup, the Tone Wop (often mistakenly named the "Toe Whop"), the Rev Up and the Aunt Jackie. Moves often include: shuffling, hat tricks, and shoe tricks. Dancers often perform on subways in New York City, where the performances are called Showtime, and at Union Square. The dance has been embraced as a symbol of the urban musical social scene of Harlem. Well-known teams include: W.A.F.F.L.E. Showtime (busking)
Showtime is a type of performance Litefeet/ pole dancing done as a busking routine using hand holds installed inside New York City Subway cars. Showtime includes acrobatic flips, hat and shoe tricks, and pole tricks. Estimates have placed the number of Showtime dancers in the low hundreds. Litefeet, a type of dance that emerged from Harlem and the Bronx, succeeds breakdancing / b-boying emerging in the 1980s. It is often done to 100- BPM tracks. Some hip-hop dancers on the subway have looked down on the common litefeet moves used by other buskers. In March 2014, New York City Police Commissioner Bill Bratton announced that the New York City Police Department would, under the broken windows theory philosophy, prosecute quality of life crimes against Showtime and subway dancers for breaking the MTA’s policy against performing and panhandling on the trains, citing that performances have been on the upswing since 2008. "Chicken Noodle Soup" is a song by American recording artists from Webstar and Young B an unsigned artist from Harlem born Bianca Dupree). The song was released on September 12, 2006 as the lead single promoting Webstar's 2006 debut album ''Caught in the Web''. Vernacular dances are dances which have developed 'naturally' as a part of 'everyday' culture within a particular community.
