Many publishers have lists of best books, defined by their own criteria. This article enumerates some lists for which there are fuller articles. Among them, ''Science Fiction: The 100 Best Novels'' (Xanadu, 1985) and ''Modern Fantasy: The 100 Best Novels'' (Grafton, 1988) are collections of 100 short essays by a single author, David Pringle, with moderately long critical introductory chapters also by Pringle. For publisher Xanadu, ''Science Fiction'' was the first of four "100 Best" books published from 1985 to 1988. The sequels covered crime and mystery, horror, and fantasy. David Pringle
David Pringle (born 1 March 1950) is a Scottish science fiction editor and critic. Pringle served as the editor of '' Foundation'', an academic journal, from 1980 to 1986, during which time he became one of the prime movers of the collective which founded '' Interzone'' in 1982. By 1988, he was the sole publisher and editor of ''Interzone'', a position he retained until he sold the magazine to Andy Cox in 2004. For two-and-a-half years, from 1991 to 1993, he also edited and published a magazine entitled ''Million: The Magazine About Popular Fiction''. ''Interzone'' was nominated several times for the Hugo award for best semiprozine, winning in 1995. In 2005, the Worldcon committee gave Pringle a Special Award for his work on ''Interzone''. is a list published in the Japanese magazine ''Shūkan Bunshun'' (the Weekly Bunshun) in 1985 by Bungeishunjū. is a Japanese weekly news magazine ( Shūkanshi) based in Tokyo, Japan, known for its investigative journalism and frequent clashes with the Japanese government. ''The Guardian'' is a British daily newspaper. It was founded in 1821 as ''The Manchester Guardian'', and changed its name in 1959. ''Atlantic Canada's 100 Greatest Books'' is a non-fiction book by Trevor J. Adams and Stephen Patrick Clare, published by Nimbus Publishing. The first book of its type, it ranks and reviews the top 100 books written by Atlantic Canadian writers, published in the region, or focusing on the region.
