Listen (2020 Film)
''Listen'' is a 2020 Portuguese drama film written and directed by Ana Rocha de Sousa that stars Lúcia Moniz and Sophia Myles. The film premiered in the Horizon section of the 77th Venice International Film Festival, in which it won the Special Jury Prize. It was selected as the Portuguese entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards. However, in December 2020 the film was disqualified, as more than half of its dialogue was in English. Plot A Portuguese couple living in London have their three children taken away from them by social services, and they fight to get them back. Ana Rocha De Sousa
Ana Rocha de Sousa (born 25 October 1978) is a Portuguese director, screenwriter and actress. Life and career Born in Lisbon, Rocha de Sousa graduated in Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. She made her film debut in 1991, in João Botelho's ''No Dia dos Meus Anos'', but became popular thanks to television, starting from her leading role in the 1997 RTP1 TV-series ''Riscos''. She then moved to London, where she studied direction at the London Film School. Portugal has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1980. The award is handed out annually by the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. Thirty-nine Portuguese films have been submitted to the Academy for consideration for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. This is a list of submissions to the 93rd Academy Awards for the Best International Feature Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film every year since the award was created in 1956. The award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The International Feature Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. The category was previously called the Best Foreign Language Film, but this was changed in April 2019 to Best International Feature Film, after the Academy deemed the word "Foreign" to be outdated.
