Kalundborg Municipality
Kalundborg Municipality ( da, Kalundborg Kommune) is a municipality in Region Sjælland on the west coast of the island of Zealand in Denmark. The municipality covers an area of , and has a total population of 48,368 (1. January 2022). Its mayor is Martin Damm, a member of Venstre. The main town and the site of its municipal council is the city of Kalundborg. The municipality is surrounded by water on three sides: * ''Samsø Bælt''— the strait which separates the municipality from the island of Samsø— and Sejerø Bay (''Sejerø Bugt'') — the bay in which the island of Sejerø is located) to the north * The Great Belt (''Storebælt'')— the strait which separates Zealand from the island of Funen) and the Kattegat to the west * Jammerland Bay (''Jammerland Bugt'') to the south. Lerchenborg
Lerchenborg is a manor house located 4 km south of Kalundborg on the west coast of Zealand, Denmark. History Origins The estate was established by Carl von Ahlefeldt when he closed down the village of Østrup to establish Østrupgård in 1704 from land that used to belong to Kalundborg Castle. In 1742 it was acquired by general Christian Lerche (1692-1757). The large estate included 7 manors, 13 churches and extensive woodlands, taking in practically all of Kalundborg Amt. Lerche constructed a new seat on the estate, probably assisted by Nicolai Eigtved, Denmark's leading architect of the time. Lerche received the Order of the Elephant in 1748 and was given status of count in 1752. He renamed his estate Lerchenborg in 1754 but did not establish it as a county (''grevskab'') which, since he had no direct heirs, would fall back to the king. Carl Theodor Sørensen
Søren Carl Theodor Marius Sørensen (24 July 1893 in Altona, Hamburg, Germany – 12 September 1979 in Copenhagen, Denmark) was a Danish landscape architect who is considered to be one of the greatest landscape architects of the 20th century. A contemporary of Thomas Church, Geoffrey Jellicoe and Luis Barragán he was a leading figure in the first generation of Modernists in landscape design. He is best known for designing the first Adventure playground (in partnership with Hans Dragehjelm) in Emdrup, Copenhagen. Career Sørensen was a prolific author producing eight books, editing two volumes and writing hundreds of articles. Only one short book has been translated into English and another into German and Dutch. His books covers open space in urban life, horticulture, the history of garden art, principles of garden design, education and autobiography. Selchausdal
Selchausdal, formerly Gundetved, is a manor house and estate located on the east side of Tissø, Kalundborg Municipality, some 0+ kilometres west of Copenhagen, Denmark. The three-winged Renaissance Revival style main building is from 1857 and was designed by Johan Daniel Herholdt. It was listed on the Danish registry of protected buildings and places in 1978. History Early history Gundetved is first mentioned in 1339 when it was owned by Mathias Jensen. It was in the 15th century owned by the Limbæk family. In 1451, it was thus owned by Otte Limbæk. His daughter, the widow of Jon Bille, was the owner in 1489, The ownership of the estate was later ceded to Niels Henriksen as dowry in connection with his marriage to their daughter Margrete Bille. He was later ennobled under the name Arenfeldtand and succeeded Jørgen Mrrsvin as Chancellor of the Realm in circa 1526. Adelgade ( lit. "Nobility Street") is a street in central Copenhagen, Denmark. It runs from Gothersgade in the south to Sankt Pauls Plads with St. Paul's Church in the north. The first half of the street is dominated by modern buildings while its last section passes through the Nyboder district. History Adelgade originates in the 1649 plan for New Copenhagen, the large area which was included in the fortified city when the old East Rampart along present day Gothersgade was decommissioned and a new one was built in a more northerly direction. According to the plan, the streets in the area were to be named after Danish territorial possessions, royalty and the upper classes. The new district was spaciously planned with long straight streets. The smock mill is a type of windmill that consists of a sloping, horizontally weatherboarded, thatched, or shingled tower, usually with six or eight sides. It is topped with a roof or cap that rotates to bring the sails into the wind. This type of windmill got its name from its resemblance to smocks worn by farmers in an earlier period. Construction Smock mills differ from tower mills, which are usually cylindrical rather than hexagonal or octagonal, and built from brick or stone masonry instead of timber.
