This is a list of world champions in men's water polo since the inaugural official edition in 1973. Abbreviations History The 1973 Men's World Water Polo Championship was the first edition of the men's water polo tournament at the World Aquatics Championships, organized by the world governing body in aquatics, the FINA. As of 2022, men's water polo teams from eight European countries won all 19 tournaments. Italy is the most successful country in men's water polo tournament at the World Aquatics Championships, with four gold medals. Hungary and Spain has won three titles in men's water polo tournament. A winning streak, also known as a win streak or hot streak, is an uninterrupted sequence of success in games or competitions, commonly measured by at least 4 wins that are uninterrupted by losses or ties/draws. Although sometimes claimed as a winning streak by those unaccustomed to winning, simply winning two games in a row is most definitely not a win streak. In sports, it can be applied to teams, and individuals. In sports where teams or individuals represent groups such as countries or regions, those groups can also be said to have winning streaks if their representatives win consecutive games or competitions, even if the competitors are different. Mirko Vičević (30 June 1968) is a Montenegrin retired water polo player. He achieved 1057 goals in his career. He is a member of the World House of Fame. He was part of the Yugoslavia team which won the gold medal in water polo in the 1986 World Championships and 1988 Summer Olympics. Guillermo Molina
Guillermo Molina Ríos (born 16 March 1984 in Ceuta) is a Spanish water polo player who competed for the Spain men's national water polo team in four consecutive Summer Olympics (2004 Athens, 2008 Beijing, 2012 London and 2016 Rio. He was the joint top goalscorer at the 2016 Olympics, with 19 goals. Afterwards he competed for Italy men's national water polo team in the 2018 Men's European Water Polo Championship. He helped Italian water polo club Pro Recco win the LEN Champions League in 2009–10 and 2011–12 season. Xavier García (water Polo)
Xavier García Gadea (born 5 January 1984) is a Spanish-Croatian water polo player. He was a member of the Spain national team between 1999 and 2013, finishing in sixth place at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, fifth at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and sixth again at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. In 2003, García, then playing for CN Barcelona-Noferthe, ended up in fifth place with the national side at the 2003 World Aquatics Championships in his home town of Barcelona. Since 2010, García has played in Croatia. After being left out of the Spain national team in 2013, he obtained the Croatian citizenship in 2016 to be able to take part in the Rio Olympics, facing Spain in the group stage. Norbert Madaras (born 1 December 1979 in Eger) is a Hungarian water polo player, who won the gold medal with the men's national team at the 2004 Summer Olympics and 2008 Summer Olympics. Aleksandr Sergeyevich Kabanov (russian: Александр Серге́евич Кабанов, 14 June 1948 – 30 June 2020) was a Soviet and Russian water polo player and head coach of the Russian water polo team. Pietro Figlioli
Pietro Figlioli (born 29 May 1984) is an Italian water polo player. He competed for Australia at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics and for Italy in 2012 and 2016 and won two medals for Italy. He also won the world title in 2011. In 2012 he received the Gold Collar of Sporting Merit from the Italian Olympic Committee. Personal life Figlioli was born in Brazil, but his family moved to Australia when he was three years old. His father José Fiolo is a former Olympic swimmer.
