List Of Wind Farms In Canada
This is a list of operational wind farms in Canada with a capacity of at least 100 MW. The name of the wind farm is the name used by the energy company when referring to the farm. The Centennial Wind Power Facility in Saskatchewan was the first wind farm in Canada to have a capacity of at least 100 MW upon completion in 2006. Since then numerous other wind farms have surpassed the 100 MW threshold, most often through the expansion of existing wind farms. All but two of Canada's provinces or territories are home to at least one wind farm, those without being Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. Largest wind farms The 363.5 MW Seigneurie de Beaupré Wind Farms in Quebec has been the largest wind farm by installed capacity in Canada since it was last expanded in October 2015 from 340 MW to 363.5 MW. The Amaranth Wind Farm, also known as the ''Melancthon EcoPower Centre'', is a 199.5 megawatt (MW) wind farm in Amaranth and Melancthon Township, near Shelburne, Ontario. The centre is owned and operated by TransAlta and at the time of opening, was Canada's largest wind energy installation. Construction of the Melancthon EcoPower Centre began with the 67.5 MW Phase I in 2005 and achieved commercial operation in March 2006. The Gros-Morne Wind Farm is a large 211.5 megawatt (MW) wind farm comprising 141 1.5MW wind turbines that provides electricity to over 40,000 homes. It is located about 50 kilometers north-west of Gaspe, Quebec and it is owned and operated by Cartier Wind Energy. Six Nations (or Six Nations of the Grand River, french: Réserve des Six Nations, see, Ye:i’ Níónöëdzage:h) is demographically the largest First Nations reserve in Canada. As of the end of 2017, it has a total of 27,276 members, 12,848 of whom live on the reserve. It is the only reserve in North America that has representatives of all six Haudenosaunee nations living together. These nations are the Mohawk, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, Seneca and Tuscarora. Some Lenape (formerly known as Delaware) also live in the territory.
