Agder
Agder is a county (''fylke'') and traditional region in the southern part of Norway. The county was established on 1 January 2020, when the old Vest-Agder and Aust-Agder counties were merged. Since the early 1900s, the term Sørlandet ("south country, south land, southland") has been commonly used for this region, sometimes with the inclusion of neighbouring Rogaland. Before that time, the area was considered a part of Western Norway. The area was a medieval petty kingdom, and after Norway's unification became known as ''Egdafylki'' and later ''Agdesiden'', a county within the kingdom of Norway. The name Agder was not used after 1662, when the area was split into smaller governmental units called Nedenæs, Råbyggelaget, Lister, and Mandal. The name was resurrected in 1919 when two counties of Norway that roughly corresponded to the old Agdesiden county were renamed Aust-Agder (East Agder) and Vest-Agder (West Agder). Askland
Askland is a village in Åmli municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located in the Gjøvdal valley, just north of the river Gjøv. The village of Homdrom lies about to the southeast and the municipal centre of Åmli lies about to the southeast. From 1908 until 1960, the Gjøvdal valley was the separate municipality of Gjøvdal which had Askland as its administrative centre. Austad, Lyngdal
Austad is a village in Lyngdal municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located in the southern part of Lyngdal, about south of the town of Lyngdal and the village of Korshamn. The village is on the eastern shore of the Rosfjorden. Austad Church is located in the center of the village. The village was the administrative centre of the old municipality of Austad which existed from 1909 until 1963. In the Rockstar produced game, “Red Dead Redemption 2”, Austad is referenced on a newspaper scrap found on one of the settlers of Manzanita Post.
