This is a list of degree-granting universities and institutions in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan sorted alphabetically by the governorate to which each university belongs. Jordan has both private and public universities, many of which are supported by the government of Jordan and their respective provinces. Jordan has a fairly large number of universities for its size, and welcomes students of all nationalities. In addition, there are 50 community colleges in Jordan that are not listed here. German-Jordanian University (GJU) is a public university located near Madaba, Jordan. It offers more than 20 programs to over 6,000 students, primarily from Jordan and the Middle East. Arab Open University
The Arab Open University (AOU) is a non-profit university. The inception of AOU is a personal initiative by Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Chairman of the AOU Board of Trustees. In December 2000, Kuwait was designated to host the Headquarters of AOU. The AOU first phase was launched in October 2002 in three branches: Kuwait, Lebanon and Jordan.
