Borrisoleigh () is a small town in County Tipperary, Ireland. At the 2016 census, it had a population of 679. In recent years the population has exceeded 1,000 while historically the population has been around 8,000. It is in the ecclesiastical parish of Borrisoleigh and Ileigh in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cashel and Emly. Location and access The town is part of the civil parish of Glenkeen in the historic barony of Kilnamanagh Upper. It is situated on the R498 Nenagh–Thurles road. Borrisokane () is a town in County Tipperary, Ireland. It is situated at the junction of the N52 and N65 national secondary roads. At the 2016 census, it had a population of 942. The Ballyfinboy River flows through the town on its way to Lough Derg, to the west. It is also a civil parish in the historical barony of Ormond Lower and an Ecclesiastical parish in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Killaloe. History During the Norman invasion of Ireland, the area now known as Borrisokane was the property of the O'Carrolls of Ely who claimed to be descendants of the ''Clan or Cian'' or the ''Cianacht''. The O’Kennedys were another significant ruling family, owning tower houses in the surrounding townlands. During the Cromwellian Plantation, Arthur Annesley, 1st Earl of Anglesey, the Earl of Cork and the Earl of Arran were among those granted lands at Borrisokane. Barnane
Barnane () is a townland in the civil parish of the same name in County Tipperary, Ireland. Barnane or Barnane-Ely is one of eleven civil parishes in the historical barony of Ikerrin. It is also part of the Ecclesiastical parish of Drom and Inch. Location It lies in the shelter of the southern slope of the Devil's Bit mountain. The R501 road nearby connects the village to the towns of Borrisoleigh to the west and Templemore to the east. Legend The townsland gets its name from the legend of Saint Patrick who was pursuing the Devil out of Ireland. In his haste to escape the ''Apostle of Ireland'', the Devil took a bite out of the mountain. The resultant gap ( ga, Bearnán) is what we see today in an otherwise smooth, table-like mountain.
