Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis
Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis ( pl, Mikołaj Konstanty Czurlanis – ) was a Lithuanian painter, composer and writer. Čiurlionis contributed to symbolism and art nouveau, and was representative of the fin de siècle epoch. He has been considered one of the pioneers of abstract art in Europe. During his short life, he composed about 400 pieces of music and created about 300 paintings, as well as many literary works and poems. The majority of his paintings are housed in the M. K. Čiurlionis National Art Museum in Kaunas, Lithuania. His works have had a profound influence on modern Lithuanian culture. Biography Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis was born in Senoji Varėna, a town in southeastern Lithuania that at the time was in the Russian Empire. 2420 Čiurlionis, provisionally designated , is a stony Eunomian asteroid from the central regions of the asteroid belt, approximately 9 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 3 October 1975, by Soviet astronomer Nikolai Chernykh at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory in Nauchnij, on the Crimean peninsula, and later named after Lithuanian painter and composer Mikalojus Čiurlionis. Orbit and classification ''Čiurlionis'' is a member of the Eunomia family, a large group of S-type asteroids and the most prominent family in the intermediate main-belt. It orbits the Sun at a distance of 2.2–2.9 AU once every 4 years and 1 month (1,496 days). Its orbit has an eccentricity of 0.13 and an inclination of 15 ° with respect to the ecliptic. Čiurlionis Mountain
The Čiurlionis Mountain (russian: Гора Чурляниса) is a basalt mountain plateau by the Tikhaya Bay at the Hooker Island, Franz Josef Land, Russia. In 1957, Aalenian deposits over the Upper Jurassic deposits were reported at the mountain. Name The memoirs of polar explorer and artist who saw the area when he was taking part in a 1913 polar expedition of Georgy Sedov say: "On the foggy days when we saw these headlands, they resembled the visions of the fantasy painter Čiurlionis". Latter writers attributed the naming to Pinegin. A member of another expedition to the area, Vyacheslav Alekseyevich Markin, published a photo in his book, from which it can be concluded that the inspiration was the painting ''Stillness'' by Čiurlionis. Vyacheslav Markin suggests the name of the bay, "Tikhaya" ("Still, "Quiet") was inspired by the name of the painting. Hooker Island
Hooker Island (russian: остров Гукера; ''Ostrov Gukera'') is one of the central islands of Franz Josef Land. It is located in the central area of the archipelago at . It is administered by the Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia. History Hooker Island was discovered by the 1880 expedition to Franz Josef Land led by Benjamin Leigh Smith. It was named after British naturalist Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker who went with James Clark Ross' expedition on ships ''Erebus'' and ''Terror'' to Antarctica in 1839. Remains of a plesiosaur ''(Peloneustes philarchus)'' have been found in Hooker Island. Caribou antlers have been found as well, suggesting that herds reached here up to about 1,300 years ago during a period where the earth had a warmer climate. Tikhaya Bay was the site of a major base for polar expeditions, and the location of a meteorological station from 1929 to 1963. Pamir Mountains
The Pamir Mountains are a mountain range between Central Asia and Pakistan. It is located at a junction with other notable mountains, namely the Tian Shan, Karakoram, Kunlun, Hindu Kush and the Himalaya mountain ranges. They are among the world's highest mountains. Much of the Pamir Mountains lie in the Gorno-Badakhshan Province of Tajikistan.
