List Of Theaters Of Ponce, Puerto Rico
This list of theaters in Ponce, Puerto Rico, consists of both movie theaters as well as the traditional performing arts theaters in the city of Ponce, Puerto Rico. Both historical (including no longer existing) as well a currently operating theaters are listed. During the first half of the 20th century, most theaters have been located in the central urban zone of the city. One prominent exception is Teatro Miramar, the theater that served the Playa community in barrio Playa, Ponce. Today's cinema theaters oftentimes have several screens under a single roof. Art Deco, short for the French ''Arts Décoratifs'', and sometimes just called Deco, is a style of visual arts, architecture, and product design, that first appeared in France in the 1910s (just before World War I), and flourished in the United States and Europe during the 1920s and 1930s. Pedro Méndez Mercado
Pedro Méndez Mercado was a twentieth-century Puerto Rican architect from Ponce, Puerto Rico. He designed many prominent structures, including the 1941 enlargement of Plaza de Mercado de Ponce in Ponce and the "Edificio Miami" (Miami Building) in San Juan. He also designed "Apartamentos Beatriz" in Ponce, and is believed to have designed at least half a dozen theaters in Ponce. Early years Pedro Méndez Mercado was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, on 26 June 1902. He was the second of eight children born to José Méndez López, a Spanish businessman with a store in Ponce across from Plaza de Mercado de Isabel Segunda, and Rosario Mercado Galarza, from Yauco, Puerto Rico. The Spanish Colonial Revival Style ( es, Arquitectura neocolonial española) is an architectural stylistic movement arising in the early 20th century based on the Spanish Colonial architecture of the Spanish colonization of the Americas. Casa Paoli
Casa Paoli (English: Paoli House) is a historic house and biographical museum in barrio Cuarto, Ponce, Puerto Rico, in the Ponce Historic Zone. The house is significant as the birthplace of Antonio Paoli (1871–1946), a tenor who was the "first Puerto Rican to reach international recognition in the performing arts" and "one of the most outstanding opera singers of all times". The house was the childhood home of the artist and he was introduced to art and opera at this house during his formative years. Quinto (''Barrio Quinto'') is one of the 31 barrios of the municipality of Ponce, Puerto Rico. Together with Primero, Segundo, Tercero, Cuarto, and Sexto, Quinto is one of the municipality's six original urban barrios. It was organized in 1878. Alfredo Wiechers Pieretti was a Puerto Rican architect from Ponce, Puerto Rico. He was an expositor of the Neoclassicism and Art Nouveau architectural styles, doing most of his work in his hometown of Ponce. Today, Alfredo Wiechers' city residence, located in the Ponce Historic Zone and which he designed himself, is a museum, the Museo de la Arquitectura Ponceña.
