Many literary awards give significant remunerations. This is a list of active literary awards from around the world with a prize of at least or equivalent. Although global in scope and comprising over 35 awards, most of the prizes are in only four currencies: United Arab Emirates dirham, Swedish krona, Euro, and United States dollar. Inclusion criteria *The award is active and is primarily focused on writing (novels, poetry, non-fiction etc..) *The remuneration is equal to or greater than US$100,000 or equivalent. International Ibsen Award
The International Ibsen Award (Norwegian: ''Den internasjonale Ibsenprisen'') honours an individual, institution or organization that has brought new artistic dimensions to the world of drama or theater. The committee consists of figures in the theatre community. The prize was established by the Norwegian government in 2008, using the name of playwright Henrik Ibsen. It has no relation to Henrik Ibsen or the Ibsen family, and is solely the initiative of the Norwegian government. The winner is announced on 20 March, which is also Henrik Ibsen's birthday, and the prize consists of NOK 2,5 millions making it one of the richest literary prizes in the world. It is awarded at the Norwegian National Theatre's Ibsen festival every other year. Sonning Prize
The Sonning Prize ( da, Sonningprisen) is a Danish culture prize awarded biennially for outstanding contributions to European culture. It is named after the Danish editor and author Carl Johan Sonning (1879–1937), who established the prize by his will. A prize was first awarded in 1950 to Winston Churchill for furthering Anglo-Danish scientific interests. However, a sequence of annual awards in this name was established in 1959 with the award to Albert Schweitzer followed by Bertrand Russell in 1960, the criterion being someone who “has accomplished meritorious work for the advancement of European civilization”, and judged by a committee of the Senate of the University of Copenhagen. From 1971 it was awarded every second year until 1991, starting again in 1994 till the present. Lannan Literary Awards
The Lannan Literary Awards are a series of awards and literary fellowships given out in various fields by the Lannan Foundation. Established in 1989, the awards are meant "to honor both established and emerging writers whose work is of exceptional quality", according to the foundation. The Sheikh Zayed Book Award is a literary award begun in the UAE. Origins and operations It was established in 1969 in France by Simone Del Duca (1912–2004) to continue the work of her husband, publishing magnate Cino Del Duca (1899–1967). The award recognizes an author whose work constitutes, in a scientific or literary form, a message of modern humanism.
