Police Service Of Northern Ireland
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI; ga, Seirbhís Póilíneachta Thuaisceart Éireann; Ulster Scots dialects, Ulster-Scots: ') is the police, police force that serves Northern Ireland. It is the successor to the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) after it was reformed and renamed in 2001 on the recommendation of the Patten Report. Although the majority of PSNI officers are Ulster Protestants, this dominance is not as pronounced as it was in the RUC because of Affirmative action, positive action policies. The RUC was a militarised police force and played a key role in policing the violent conflict known as the Troubles. Craigavon, County Armagh
Craigavon ( ) () is a town in northern County Armagh, Northern Ireland. Its construction began in 1965 and it was named after the first Prime Minister of Northern Ireland: James Craig, 1st Viscount Craigavon. It was intended to be the heart of a new Linear settlement, linear city incorporating Lurgan and Portadown, but this plan was mostly abandoned and later described as having been flawed. Among local people today, "Craigavon" refers to the area between the two towns. 2009 Baghdad Police Recruitment Centre Bombing
The Baghdad police recruitment centre bombing was a suspected suicide bombing in the city of Baghdad, Iraq, that killed 28 people on 8 March 2009. The attack occurred at 10 am local time ( UTC+3) in the centre of a crowd outside the police recruitment centre building. Most of the dead were police recruits; others were civilians and serving officers. There were a further 57 injuries. The death toll is the highest reported incident in Iraq for nearly one month. Insurgents often choose police recruitment centres to attack and this centre, located on Palestine Street, was previously attacked. Concrete blocks have been constructed and checkpoints have been set up nearby to prevent such an attack. The Massereene Barracks shooting took place at Massereene Barracks in Antrim, Northern Ireland. On 7 March 2009, two off-duty British Army, British soldiers of 19th Light Brigade (United Kingdom), 38 Engineer Regiment were shot dead outside the barracks. The 19th Brigade is an Army Reserve (United Kingdom), Army Reserve brigade of the British Army. As the 19th Infantry Brigade it fought in the World War I, First and World War II, Second world wars.
