Sussana Dantjie
Sussana Rebecca Dantjie (née Tsebe) is a South African politician who has been serving as the Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature since May 2014. She was a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa from May 2009 to May 2014. Dantjie is a member of the African National Congress. Political career Dantjie is a member of the African National Congress. She was elected to the National Assembly of South Africa in April 2009. On 6 May, she was sworn in as an MP. During her parliamentary tenure, she sat on both the Portfolio Committee on Communications and the Standing Committee on Auditor General. Ahead of the May 2014 general election, Dantjie was placed 12th on the party's candidate list to the North West Provincial Legislature. She was elected and was sworn in as an MPL on 21 May. North West Provincial Legislature
The North West Provincial Legislature is the primary legislative body of the South African province of North West (South Africa), North West. It is unicameral in its composition, and elects the premier and the provincial cabinet from among the members of the leading party or coalition in the parliament. Powers The North West Provincial Legislature elects the Premier of North West, the head of the province's executive. The legislature, by passing a motion of no confidence, can force the Premier to resign. North West (South African Province)
North West is a province of South Africa. Its capital is Mahikeng. The province is located to the west of the major population centre of Gauteng and south of Botswana. History North West was incorporated after the end of Apartheid in 1994, and includes parts of the former Transvaal Province and Cape Province, as well as most of the former bantustan of Bophuthatswana. It was the scene of political violence in Khutsong, Merafong City Local Municipality in 2006 and 2007, after cross-province municipalities were abolished and Merafong Municipality was transferred entirely to North West. Merafong has since been transferred to Gauteng province in 2009. Dimotana Thibedi
Jerry Dimotana Thibedi (born 7 April 1954) is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 2010 to 2019 and in the North West Provincial Legislature from 1994 to 2009. He was the inaugural Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature between 1994 and 1999 and subsequently served in the North West Executive Council between 1999 and 2009 under Premiers Popo Molefe and Edna Molewa. Formerly a prominent trade unionist and anti-apartheid activist in the Transvaal, Thibedi also served as Deputy Provincial Chairperson of the North West ANC from 1998 to 2005. He has been a member of the Central Committee of the South African Communist Party since 1998. Johannes Selapedi
Oabetswe Johannes Tselapedi (died 6 June 2021) was a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West Provincial Legislature. He served as the second Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature from 1999 to 2004 and then as the North West's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education from 2004 until November 2010, when he was fired by newly elected Premier Thandi Modise. He also served as Deputy Provincial Chairperson of the ANC in the North West from 1996 to 1998. Thandi Modise (born 25 December 1959) is a South African politician who is currently serving as the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans. She was previously the Premier of the North West from 2010 to 2014, Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces from 2014 to 2019, and Speaker of the National Assembly from 2019 to 2021. Modise has been a member of the African National Congress (ANC) since the 1976 Soweto uprising, when she dropped out of high school to join Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK), the ANC's armed wing, in exile. In 1978 she returned to South Africa as a trained guerrilla operative for MK and from 1980 to 1988 she was imprisoned under the Terrorism Act for her anti-apartheid activism. He served as the Provincial Secretary of the African National Congress North West Provincial Leadership from 2011 until August 2018.
