"No Place for Me" is the debut single of country singer-songwriter Willie Nelson. Nelson recorded the song while working as a disc jockey at KVAN in Vancouver, Washington, using a studio of the radio. Through a DJ he met during his time working on the radio in Texas, he contacted Starday Records, sending the tapes over to the label. Starday Records pressed for Nelson 500 copies of the single, issued under the custom label "Willie Nelson Records". The company initially reserved the rights for re-publications under the Starday label, but decided later not to exercise the right. Nelson sold the record over his radio show '' The Western Express'', a final total of 3,000 units. Produced by Bill Quinn, it was cut at Gold Star Studios in March 1960. A cover version by Johnny Bush was recorded in 1967. Jan Crutchfield (February 26, 1938 – October 30, 2012) was an American country music singer and songwriter. He is best known for writing " Statue of a Fool", which was first recorded in 1969 by Jack Greene and was a No. 1 hit on the Hot Country Songs charts for him. Versions of the song by Brian Collins and Ricky Van Shelton also charted in the top 10. Other notable compositions written by Crutchfield include " Tear Time" by Dave & Sugar, "My Heart Is an Open Book", and several singles by Lee Greenwood, including "She's Lying", "It Turns Me Inside Out", and " Going, Going, Gone". While working for KWMF, KBOP in Pleasanton, Texas, in 1955, the song was one of the first two ever recorded by Nelson. After two of his demos with the song were rejected, Nelson cut the song during his first session as a recording artist for D Records in Fort Worth, Texas.
