The discography of the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish consists of nine studio albums, one extended play, six live albums, seven compilations, eighteen music videos and twenty-two singles. The band was formed in 1996 by songwriter and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, and former vocalist Tarja Turunen; Nightwish's current line-up has six members although Turunen has been replaced by Anette Olzon and later by Floor Jansen, and the original bassist, Sami Vänskä, has been replaced by Marko Hietala, who also took over the male vocalist part. The band soon picked up drummer Jukka Nevalainen, and then bassist Sami Vänskä after the release of their debut album, ''Angels Fall First'' (1997). ''Oceanborn'' is the second studio album by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. It was released in Finland by Spinefarm Records on 7 December 1998 and in the spring of 1999 worldwide. It was released by Drakkar Entertainment in the rest of Europe, and by Toy's Factory in Japan. It is their first album with bassist Sami Vänskä. ''Oceanborn'' has sold more than 68,000 copies in Finland. The single "Sleeping Sun" was released in August 1999, and the song has been included in every reissue of the album since then. The album was released in the US by Century Media in March 2001. In 2017, '' Loudwire'' ranked it as the 10th best power metal album of all time. Imaginaerum World Tour
''Imaginaerum World Tour'' was the fifth world tour by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish, in support of their seventh studio album, ''Imaginaerum''. The tour started in Los Angeles, USA, on January 21, 2012, and then the band played an arena tour in Europe between March and May, and the group has also performed in North and Latin America later that year. In 2013, the band performed in Asia and Oceania, finishing the tour with festival shows in Europe, in a 104 concert tour that finished on August 11, 2013. A "secret" concert under the pseudonym "Rubber Band of Wolves" was held at the Key Club in Hollywood, California, on January 19, 2012. ''Imaginaerum'' (also promoted as ''Imaginaerum by Nightwish'') is a 2012 Finnish-Canadian fantasy film co-written and directed by Stobe Harju. It was developed with and features music from Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish's seventh studio album of the same name; Nightwish's keyboardist and songwriter Tuomas Holopainen co-wrote the film. ''Imaginaerum'', which is produced by Markus Selin from Solar Films Inc. along with Nightwish, is the feature film debut of director Stobe Harju. It received grants from the Finnish Film Foundation, a Finnish government institution. The film received $575,000 toward its $3.7 million budget. It was released on 30 November 2011 by Scene Nation Oy and Sony Music in Finland, then on 2 December in Nuclear Blast in the rest of Europe and Roadrunner Records worldwide. According to Nightwish songwriter Tuomas Holopainen, the album is a concept album that tells the story of an old composer who is reminiscing of his youth on his deathbed. "Storytime" is the lead single from Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish's seventh studio album, ''Imaginaerum''. It was released on November 9, 2011, twenty days prior to the album, along with a music video. The song premiered on Radio Rock, a Finnish radio station at 9.00 GMT +2 on November 7, 2011, two days before its commercial release. Composer and band leader Tuomas Holopainen has said of "Storytime" that it "is a single that pretty well represents the whole album", and that it gives a better picture of the album than "Eva" and "Amaranth" did as the first two singles from the 2007 album ''Dark Passion Play''. "Amaranth" is the thirteenth single by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. It was released as the first official single from their sixth studio album, ''Dark Passion Play'', and was the second single overall to feature former frontwoman Anette Olzon, following the promotional single "Eva". The official release date was 22 August 2007 but it was leaked onto the Internet earlier, though the exact date it leaked is unknown. The title song includes all of the band members, but the single contains a bonus track called "While Your Lips Are Still Red", on which Olzon and the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen do not play. This song is used in the Finnish film ''The Matriarch'', released in September 2007. The official video for "Amaranth" was released on 15 June and has had over 100 million views. "Eva" is the fourth promotional single by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. Lifted from their sixth studio album ''Dark Passion Play'', this was the first release to feature Anette Olzon, following Tarja Turunen's departure in 2005. Initially the single was only released on the Internet and radio, with a release date of 30 May 2007, together with the revealing of the identity of the new vocalist (Anette Olzon), but due to a leak on 23 May the vocalist's identity was revealed on 24 May and the song was released on the 25th. Officially, "Eva" started to play on Finnish radio stations ''YleX'' and ''Radio Rock'' at 07:00 on 25 May, and was available as a download the same day. ''Dark Passion Play'' is the sixth studio album by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. It was released on 26 September 2007 by Spinefarm Records in Finland, 28 September by Nuclear Blast in Europe and 2 October 2007 by Roadrunner Records in the US. It is the first album without original vocalist Tarja Turunen, who was dismissed in 2005, as well as the first album involving future member Troy Donockley on uilleann pipes and tin whistle. It is the first of only two albums with vocalist Anette Olzon, who was eventually dismissed in 2012 after the release of the band's subsequent album, ''Imaginaerum''. Alyson Avenue is a melodic rock band from Helsingborg, Sweden. The band was formed by keyboardist Niclas Olsson along with then bassist Thomas Lyöskä, the band was originally fronted by a male vocalist until 1995 when back-up singer Anette Olzon became a permanent member and lead vocalist. Their musical style is described as AOR and melodic rock. History Alyson Avenue was formed in 1989 by a couple of friends who intended to play melodic rock in the way Treat and Europe amongst others did. At that time Alyson Avenue had a male vocalist. Anette Olzon was taken in to the band as a back-up singer, but did a great job on a demo recording, and then became a permanent member soon after the band was founded. ''End of an Era'' is a DVD and double CD from Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. Nuclear Blast recorded their live performance at the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland, on 21 October 2005, the final concert of a long worldwide tour for their album ''Once''. During the concert the band was joined on-stage by John Two-Hawks, who performed "Stone People" from his album ''Honor'' as an introduction to " Creek Mary's Blood", which featured his voice and cedar flutes. ''End of an Era'' is the final Nightwish production to feature Tarja Turunen on vocals. She was dismissed by a letter after this concert. ''Once Upon a Tour'' was the third world tour by Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish, in 2004 and 2005, to promote the release of their fifth album, ''Once'', released June 7, 2004. A new greatest hits compilation, ''Highest Hopes'', was also released to tie in with the tour. The albums combined with the band's most expansive merchandise campaign by Nuclear Blast Records meant this tour was heralded as the band's most important in many years. Many of the band's songs had not been played in a long time.
