Preveza (regional Unit)
Preveza ( el, Περιφερειακή ενότητα Πρέβεζας) is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the Epirus region. Its capital is the town of Preveza. Geography The regional unit of Preveza is located northwest of the Ambracian Gulf. The Ionian Sea lies to the west. The terrain is mostly hilly. The mountains of Xerovouni are in the far northeast. Rivers include the Louros in the east, and Acheron in the north. Its climate is typically Mediterranean with hot dry summers and cool winters. Snow is not uncommon in winter at higher elevations. Administration The regional unit Preveza is subdivided into 3 municipalities. These are (number as in the map in the infobox): *Parga (3) *Preveza (1) * Ziros (2) Prefecture Preveza was established as a prefecture in 1915 ( el, Νομός Πρέβεζας). Kastri, Preveza
Kastri ( el, Καστρί) is a village and a community of the Parga municipality. Before the 2011 local government reform it was part of the municipality of Fanari, of which it was a municipal district. The 2011 census recorded 277 inhabitants in the village. The community of Kastri covers an area of 4.476 km2. Geography The village stands on a plain from where Acheron passes through. It is on the northern part of the Preveza regional unit in a distance of almost 47 km from Preveza. History The ruins of an acropolis can be seen on a hill near Kastri, which give the village its name, meaning "castle". These are likely to be the remains of the ancient city Pandosia. Kanallaki
Kanallaki (, ) is a settlement in the regional unit of Preveza, Epirus. It belongs to the municipality of Parga and is simultaneous the seat of it. The number of inhabitants of the town amounts to 2,491. History Kanallaki was one of the Christian Orthodox Albanian-speaking villages which either due to the absence of Greek or for reasons of demographic importance, would see Greek education expanded, through measures such as the establishment of kindergartens.Baltsiotis. Kanali
Kanali ( el, Κανάλι) is a seaside village and a community in the Preveza regional unit, northwestern Greece. It was the seat of the former municipality Zalongo. The community consists of the villages Kanali, Kastrosykia, Mazi, Nea Thesi and Pidima Kyras. Kanali is situated on the Ionian Sea coast, 13 km north of Preveza. Kamarina ( el, Καμαρίνα) is a village of Preveza regional unit, in the region of Epirus, in western Greece.
